PKNU held Handover Ceremony for High-tech, Eco-Friendly Training Ship ’Baek-kyung’ A takeover ceremony is an event in which Pukyong National University officially takes over the construction of the ship, ’Baek-kyung’, from Daesun shipbuilding company. The event was held with only important persons concerned from Pukyong National University, Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., Ltd, Korean Register(KR), and KR Engineering Co., Ltd. to comply with the quarantine regulations according to COVID-19. Starting with the introduction of the construction process of the ’Baek-kyung’ on this day, the naming of the ’Baek-kyung’, the delivery of the classification certificate, and the horn blowing were conducted. The ship ’Baek-kyung’, the largest among the school training ships among the Fisheries University in Korea, which was built from September of last year with the government’s budget of KRW 53.2 billion, has 97 meters in length, 15.4 meters in width, and a total ton of 3,990 tons and 160 people, including crew members and trainees, can board the ship and the maximum speed is 16 knots. It is equipped with the latest clouding computer system and LAN facilities, a ship management system capable of real-time monitoring of in-board networking and navigational and institutional information, and a simulation training system using this. In order to prevent air pollution, it is an eco-friendly ship equipped with a TIER3 class emission gas reduction system, the highest level among training ships, and it is also characterized by the fact that it is possible to practice in one place for a long time by installing the automatic ship positioning system (DPS). Baek-kyung is a given name of a training ship of the past Pukyong National University, the National Fisheries University of Busan, which pioneered Korea’s ocean fishing in the 1960s. Pukyong National University will begin marine exploration by exploring with ultra-advanced ’ocean campus’, the two ships of ’Nara’ (1494 tons) which was constructed in 2015 and ’Baek-kyung’.
