What if we promote the beauty and health product business by adding Korean 'K-beauty' industry and Russian pollack ingredients?

The winner of the 'New Northern Youth Future Pioneer Project Idea Contest' recently held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the team 'Marina (leader Lee Gyeong-gyu, 4th grader of Pukyong National University's Department of Marine Business & Economics)' from the Kyunghee University and Pukyong National University student team.

In this competition, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened to implement the New Northern Policy and promote future-oriented cooperation with countries on the Eurasian continent, in celebration of the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Russia this year, the Marina team received the best evaluation with the idea of 'Collagen product business through pollack skin'.

With this idea, they attracted attention by setting up a joint venture between Korea and Russia to propose a plan to promote the collagen beauty and health product business, focusing on the fact that Russia is the world's number one pollack production country and that pollack skins are rich in collagen.

They proposed to establish a joint venture near Vladivostok, Russia, in order to utilize the low cost of labor in Russia and the capital and technology of Korea. In addition, they proposed a plan to sell online cosmetics and health functional foods developed with collagen extracted from pollack shells.

This idea was highly praised for its feasibility by analyzing the Russian pollack industry by utilizing the team members' majors (Kyunghee University's Department of Russian Studies of and Pukyong National University's Department of Marine Business & Economics), and suggesting specific business execution strategies such as marketing plans as well as methods of implementing collagen extraction technology.

Professor Kim Do-hoon Marine from Business & Economics at Pukyong National University said, "This idea not only helps to develop the lagging fishery processing industry in Russia and secures quota system for Korean pollack and other Korean-type fish species, but also means that business and environmental values can be obtained at the same time by utilizing discarded pollack skins." <Pukyong Today>
