"Let's take a new leap forward through 4 major innovations."
Jang Young-soo, President of PKNU, made a public announcement at the New Year's Address in 2021.

On the 31st, Pukyong National University President Jang Young-soo stressed, "In 2021, we will make a new leap forward by implementing 4 innovation tasks such as ▷creative convergence education, ▷strengthening liberty, ▷strengthening research and welfare, and strengthening university finances."

President Jang Young-soo scaled down the opening ceremony of 2021 due to the spread of Covid-19 and announced the 2021 New Year's address through online on 31, December. He made new year's address public both internally and externally through the Pukyong National University online website and social media channels.

On this day, President Jang expressed his gratitude in his New Year's address, "So far, we have been going through new and difficult experiences in the spread of Covid-19," he added, "The situation we are facing is very confusing and uncomfortable because everyone is going through this for the first time, but thank you for all the members who managed it well."

 Then he said, "This age of ever-changing innovation is calling for our universities to transform into a future university that can contribute to the local community and the country," and added, "We must put all our competencies together to respond to new environmental changes and prepare for the future."

President Chang announced the 4 major innovation tasks for 2021, "Last year, our university established a new vision of 'new beginning, new inspiration,' and started the challenge for a new beginning."

The first of Pukyong National University's four major innovation tasks in 2021, which he announced on this day, is the practice of creative convergence education to foster future convergence talents.

President Jang stressed, “In order to cultivate human resources capable of responding to the new knowledge industry, convergent and complex education beyond a mono-discipline is required."

In order to achieve this, he said, "In preparation for the three-year basic college competency diagnosis in the first half of this year, the reorganization of the academic structure was completed last year through active participation and agreement of members including professors. I am deeply grateful to the professors who sympathize with the necessity of restructuring the academic structure and who participated."

President Jang emphasized, "However, in order to respond to the next four-cycle evaluation and strengthen the competitiveness of our university, it is necessary to build a global convergence education system in connection with regional universities and overseas universities beyond the current fusion education within our university. Let all the university members actively prepare for this."

The second of the 4 innovation tasks are minimizing administrative regulations to strengthen university liberty.

President Jang said, "We will ensure maximum liberty in all areas of research, education, and administration. Also, we will continue to ease unnecessary regulations and strive to minimize administration."

The third innovation task is to support Korea's highest level of research support and strengthen welfare.

"In order to strengthen the research capacity of universities, it is necessary to create a welfare system that guarantees sufficient research period and research support for excellent research." and he added, "Our university will improve the evaluation system for research achievements and strengthen support for research funding," President Jang said.

Fourth is the strengthening of financial independence.

Regarding this, President Jang proposed two measures to strengthen university's financial independence, "It will be possible to manage a university with a challenge and liberty only by securing its own profit base.

It is the expansion of external government's financial business and profit business, securing development funds, and improvement of financial efficiency.

President Jang said, "Our university will clearly set goals for financial management, thoroughly manage performance according to financial input, and drastically reduce unnecessary and inefficient financial use," he added, "Through this, we will do our best to support research and create a creative educational environment."
