PKNU · Asia Culture Institute attracts people’s attention in an effort to support people with disabilities to enjoy exhibition.

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) and Asian Culture Institute (Director Lee Ki-pyo) joined hands to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy cultural exhibitions draws public’s attention.

Pukyong National University and the Asian Culture Institute announced on 5th, January that they recently published three audio books, ’Connecting the Seas of Asia’ produced as the contents of the ’Pyohaerok of Asia (A Record of Drifting Across the Sea by Choe Bu)’ exhibition.
 
The ’Pyohaerok of Asia’ exhibition held at the Jang Bogo Hall of Pukyong National University from July to August of last year was an exhibition showing drifting records discovered throughout Asia from the 17th to the 19th century.

This audio book published was produced by reorganizing the contents of the exhibition with the support of the Busan Braille Library and Gwangju Braille Library.

The major contents of the Marine Humanities Series 『Pyohaerok of Asia』 and 『The Drift Journal in Joseon』, jointly published by Pukyong National University Humanity Korea Plus (HK+) Business team (Leader Son Dong-joo) and the research center of the Asian Culture Institute through cooperative research for 3 years, were presented At the exhibition.

A total of 7 books from Korea, China, Japan, and Vietnam from 『Pyohaerok of Asia』, including the first disclosing data in Korea, were exhibited along with maps of East Asia and images of ancient books. In addition, the audio book published this time allows the visually handicapped person to ’listen’ to these exhibits.

Especially, Pukyong National University and the Asian Culture Institute produced and provided Braille leaflets at the exhibition, as well as some contents such as exhibition titles, catalogs, and ship images in Braille, and they tried to lower the barriers to access to the exhibition by handicapped persons by providing a service to explain the exhibition.

The audio books published this time will be distributed to the visually impaired libraries nationwide through the Visually Impaired through the National Library for the Disabled and the Direct Rapid Easy Accessible Material Service (DREAM Service).
