Pukyong Student won this year's Annual Spring Literary Contest of Dong-A Daily News
Kim Myeong-jin, Dept. of Korean Language and Literature ...  the winner of the movie critic category

A student at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) took the honors as a winner of the 2021 Annual Spring Literary Contest of Dong-A Daily News.

The winner's name is Kim Myeong-jin, the student of Korean Language and Literature Department (Class of 2018).

Kim Myeong-jin won this year's Annual Spring Literary Contest of Dong-A Daily News in the review section and was honored with an award for her review, 'About the existence never-to-be-forgotten after all these years' of the film named ‘To Yoon-hee (2019, Director Yim Dae-hyeong)’.

The Dong-A Daily News viewed the movie review as "She approached the movie 'To Yoon-hee' as a queer film and analyzed it as the strong tie of the audience, the warmth of the winter and the aesthetics of slowness. Also, she criticized the audience on the earth as a group of human beings trapped in the social norms, and accomplished the growth potential of the director and audience through work analysis."

Kim Myeong-jin said in her winning speech in the Dong-A Daily News, "I've always liked movies and writing itself. Looking back, even though I was busy with exams and assignments, I always had a place for a movie in my heart. A place where I can stop by and take a break whenever I got sick at heart. For me, movies were such a thing. As a movie freak, I just wrote plain text, but I was lucky to be honored and I am bewildered at having won a prize I wasn't expecting. Regardless of the direction, I will accept it as a meaning of not stopping my love for movies and will devote myself more."

The following is the article content of the interview with Kim Myeong-jin, conducted by Pukyong Today.

▷ Feelings about winning
I want to say thank you for congratulating me. I was informed of the news of the Annual Spring Literary Contest of Dong-A Daily News ahead of the final exam of the second semester. Since I was taking 7 major courses, I was so busy with preparations and assignments for the final exam that I thought I would give up the Annual Spring Literary Contest, but if I don't try this time, I would definitely regret it. So, while preparing for the final exam and doing assignments, I had to write a movie review for the Annual Spring Literary Contest. Since I barely sent the manuscript to the deadline, I put a meaning on the challenge itself, I feel amazing and grateful to receive the result of winning.

▷ A particular reason for writing movie reviews
I don't have a particular reason to write a movie review, I usually enjoy watching movies. And, at which point I discovered that I began to interpret the content with my own interpretations on the movies that I saw impressively or that I thought were personally meaningful.

▷ Your own ways of writing movie reviews?
After all, it seems to be the most important thing to write while recognizing what the message this movie throws at the audience. And I think that the attempt to approach it from a new perspective, not the obvious interpretation that anyone can do, helped to write a film review.

▷ Favorite Movies (Genre)
I like all the movie genres evenly. Every genre seems to have its own charm. If you want to see a meaningful movie, I recommend the movie directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, <Like Father, Like Son (2014)>, <Our little sister>, and <Shoplifters (2018)> left a longer trace.

▷ Your own ways to enjoy movies?
When I see a movie, I always think of what kind of scene I would have directed at that moment 'if I was the director'. Also, the film feels more interesting when I try to capture the reason why director put this line and why directir put this object here at this point.

▷ What is your goal?
I think I am in the process of finding out what I want to do. In the short term, In 2021, my goal is to finish my last school life, 4th grade. Smile and stay healthy!

▷ A word to the Pukyong people
I wonder if there is anything I would dare to say, but if I send a message of support, I want to say that people seem to have their own pace. I don't think that being late now is not forever late in life, and that being fast now is not forever fast. I think, everyone should do their best on the place, waiting for their own time. I hope everyone is happier this year than last year. <Pukyong Today>
