Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) held a starting ceremony of the Pukyong National University's volunteer groups in the lobby of the 1st floor of the Dongwon Jang Bogo Hall on the morning of May 6th.
On the day, 22 members of the 13th United Nations Supporters of Pukyong National University and 60 members of PKNU Community Service Volunteers of 2021 held a starting ceremony and finally started their activities in earnest.
UN Supporters of PKNU, which is a peace corps volunteer, celebrated their 13th year since their first launching in 2009 to celebrate the veterans of the Korean War.
They visit the United Nations Memorial Park, which is the world's only UN cemetery near the university, to lay a wreath and worship for soldiers. In addition, they support events such as the UN war veteran memorial festival held at the UN Memorial Park, commemorative event for the International Day of Peace, and the event, 'Turn to Word Busan' annually.
Also, during the vacation, they visit veterans living overseas and carry out activities of gratitude, such as delivering thank-you letters and gifts. So far, they have met more than 150 veterans and bereaved families living in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia to express their gratitude.
Along with these activities, the PKNU Community Service Volunteers is a student volunteer group that works for the local community and neighbors by helping the independence of adolescents who are vulnerable in the local community and helping workers in rural and fishing areas.
They plan to play the role of a 'ladder of hope' for young people by providing support to local vulnerable adolescents in strengthening their learning competencies, as well as providing various job experience projects, physical education activities, mentoring, and counseling activities. To do this, they decided to plan and promote various programs by establishing a cooperative network with local organizations such as the Care and Custody Center for Youth and GIZI Aloysius 1968.
Also, in the summer, they carry out a house repair service of love to find households living in vulnerable residential areas near the university and repair their homes, and in winter, they carry out a briquette sharing volunteer service, which delivers briquettes to households with poor heating.
President Jang Young-Soo encouraged, "Through such meaningful volunteer activities, I hope that our students at Pukyong National University will be reborn as young people who have the courage to share themselves for others." <Pukyong Today>
