Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced on May 3rd that PKNU had been selected to carry out the 'Support Project for Service Industry Specialized Zone' in Busan for the third year in a row.
This project has been promoted by the city of Busan since 2017 to strengthen the competitiveness of specific industrial clusters. Pukyong National University has been selected as a partner of this project since 2019 in collaboration with Namgu, Busan.
Pukyong National University will receive a total project cost of 120 million won, including 100 million won from the city of Busan and 20 million won from Nam-gu, Busan, centering on the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation (Director Oh Jeong-hwan). With the project cost, Pukyong National University plans to foster the areas of Daeyeon-dong and Yongdang-dong, Namgu, Busan as the centers of the shipbuilding engineering industry.
Pukyong National University has built and operated a network to share technology and information with companies in the shipbuilding engineering industry integrated in the area. Also, it has promoted support for holding joint employment fairs, administrative support and related project orders, and support for educational programs to improve productivity through projects in 2019 and 2020.
Through this, companies targeted for the project created 20 new hires in 2019 and 45 last year. The company's sales grew by about 17% compared to before the start of the project.
In addition, this year, based on the domestic and overseas shipbuilding and offshore plant industries, Pukyong National University plans to brand specialized zones, advance joint education and recruitment of personnel, expand joint markets, and promote specialized projects.
Oh Jeong-hwan, Director of Industry-University Cooperation Foundation at Pukyong National University, said, "By maximizing the competitiveness of the shipbuilding engineering specialty zone built through cooperation with the local community, we will revitalize new project orders at home and abroad, and we will actively strive to enable shipbuilding engineering companies in regions that have been hit hard by COVID-19 to leap forward again." <Pukyong Today>
