Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) held the August 2021 Convocation at the University Theater on the morning of August 27.

Pukyong National University only awarded honorary diplomas and doctoral degrees on the day in accordance with the government's guidelines for strengthening quarantine rules related to COVID-19.

Pukyong National University awarded a total of 1,414 degrees in August, including 83 doctoral degree students, 279 master's degree students, and 1,052 bachelor's degree students.

As Pukyong National University minimized the number of people attending the event, the ceremony was held in the presence of only about 40 people, including the dean of the graduate school and those who received honorary diplomas and doctoral degrees. The event was broadcast live on Pukyong National University's official YouTube channel.

At the convocation for the honorary diploma specially prepared on this day, Kim Maeng-Gyu (age 63), who was expelled from school for activities related to the Buma pro-democratic resistance movement in 1979, received an honorary diploma from his alma mater for the first time in 42 years and attracted public attention.

Among the recipients of this degree, Je Jeong-Soo (Department of Political Science and Diplomacy) and Lee Young-Jin (Division of Systems Management and Engineering), who became paragons for students with excellent grades and creativity, received the Graduation Reward of President’s Award, and 12 students including Jeong Jeong-Hyeon (Department of Mass Communication) received the Special Reward of President's Award (for Contribution), Kim Hye-Won (Department of Oceanography) received the Alumni Association Award.

Pukyong National University made it possible for graduates, including bachelors and masters, to receive their diplomas by visiting the department office in person or by mail.

During the graduation ceremony, President Jang Young-Soo said, "The pandemic situation that came unexpectedly along the academic journey must have been a difficult time for everyone, but I believe that each of you has found a new way of learning in your own way."

He continued, "In the world you will face in the future, I hope you live a life that you are constantly questioning, exploring, practicing, and moving forward in search of the hidden reality, not just the world right under your nose." <Pukyong Today>
