PKNU's three new majors in advanced new industries attract public attention

- Human Bio · Human ICT · Big Data Convergence open next year… PKNU takes the lead in the integration of academic disciplines

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) is drawing attention as an attempt to open new majors that did not exist before in order to nurture talents who will lead the 4th industrial revolution and future advanced new industries.

Pukyong National University announced that the university will open three new majors in the ‘College of Information Convergence’, a new college, ‘Human Bio Convergence’, ‘Human ICT Convergence’, and ‘Big Data Convergence’ to recruit new students this year.

The opening of a new major at Pukyong National University is part of the reform of the academic organization to proactively reflect the rapidly changing educational environment and to nurture new talent with convergence and creativity.

The three majors, which are recruiting new students this year and operating from the 2022 academic year next year, have in common that they are majors related to advanced convergence studies in preparation for future industrial demands.

The Major of Human Bio Convergence is a major that fosters combined talents in digital health care and bio health technology. It fosters talents who will play an active role in the smart healthcare industry ecosystem based on advanced biomedical engineering technologies such as wearable care devices, digital therapeutics, bio-health care materials, and biocompatible sensors.

In addition, the Major of Human ICT Convergence nurtures talents who can plan and realize cognitive-friendly and human-centered ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Through convergence education in fields such as media studies, computer engineering, business administration, and psychology, teaches methods and principles of producing human-centered artificial intelligence technologies and services.

The Major of Big Data Convergence educates not only the processing ability of standardized big data, but also the ability to collect, organize, and express various unstructured data scattered on the server or the web. In addition, the goal of this major is to cultivate convergence big data experts who create new values based on the ability to store and process vast amounts of data and big data analysis capabilities using artificial intelligence such as machine learning.

In particular, Pukyong National University organized 14 majors from six faculties, including these three majors as well as new industry-related majors from the existing College of Engineering, together in the College of Information Convergence, allowing students to take common courses between faculties even if their majors are different.
