It is the ‘Culture Archive’, an interdisciplinary liberal arts lecture opened and operated by Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) in the second semester.
In general, one or several professors participate in university lectures, but this liberal arts lecture is characterized by the participation of as many as 25 experts, including 23 professors from 10 universities in Busan and 2 business people.
The reason why so many experts participate in one lecture is that this lecture is a multidisciplinary lecture organized in an omnibus style by subject and academic categories.
25 professors from different majors participate lecture due to the method of approaching the five topics such as a house, food, clothes, money, and alcohol which have the greatest impact on life, by the subjects such as culture, art, science, technology, economy, management, history, literature, and politics and society.
If money is the topic, then Professor Kwon Ki-Ryong of Pukyong National University (Department of IT Convergence and Application Engineering) in the science and technology area, Professor Lee Young-Yil of Busan University of Foreign Studies (Department of Business Administration) in the area of economy and management, and Kim Ki-Dong, director of the Research Institute of Numismatics in the area of culture and art, will lead related-lectures. In the history and literature area, Professor Kwon Juria of Busan University of Foreign Studies (College of Mano General Education) is in charge, and in the area of politics and society, Professor Oh Chang-Ho (Department of the Mass Communication) at Pukyong National University offers the lecture.
Students can choose one of the five topics and develop their know-how and competency in each subject from the perspective of five areas. Currently, about 50 students are taking this lecture online.
Pukyong National University plans to offer this lecture for current students this semester, and then start sharing and cooperation by providing lectures to universities in the Busan area from next year.
Chae Young-Hee, Vice-President for Academic Affairs (Dean of Liberal Arts College) at Pukyong National University said, "This is a new teaching method that Pukyong National University has attempted to help students develop their thinking skills by understanding the differences in approaches in each academic field on a single topic. We hope that this lecture will serve as an opportunity for students to have a flexible knowledge system that has provided with a new learning experience of interdisciplinary convergence." <Pukyong Today>
