The Team of Department of Energy Resources Engineering of Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) won the First prize at the 'Contest of Using Geo-data & AI, 2021'.

A team of professors from the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering, Pukyong National University, Park Se-Beom (2 years, Doctoral program), Jeong Da-Hee (2 years, Master’s), and Choi Yo-Soon took first place in the AI model developing sector (free data) at this competition hosted by the Korea institute of Geoscience and mineral resources, and received 200 million won of prize money.

The Pukyong National University team utilized an open platform that provides geo-big data and analysis using research data owned by individuals in this competition, which aims to discover ideas and develop artificial intelligence models, the team presented an artificial intelligence model under the theme of 'Prediction of mine transport system using machine learning model and diagnosis of problems' and received the best evaluation.

By combining the techniques of data modeling and system modeling, they developed and proposed an AI model that could derive the optimal operation plan of the mining transport system by predicting the interval between trucks at quarry and the cumulative production of ore by time period, and received high scores.

It was found that the model developed by them can be used for equipment and workshop maintenance planning by deriving the optimal operation plan of the mining transport system based on high prediction accuracy, diagnostic and verification accuracy.

Professor Choi Yo-Soon said, "I believe that the AI model developed recently can be used not only for digital transformation in the mining field, where the promotion of smart mining technologies is expanding, but also for port logistics and smart city autonomous logistic robot system." <Pukyong Today>
