Two winners from the Dept. of Nursing, PKNU at the Busan Nursing Academic Award at once

- Choi Mi-Ae won Excellence prize, Kim Soo-Hyeon won Participation prize

The Department of Nursing at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has produced two winners, Mi-ae Choi and Kim Soo-Hyeon (master's degree), in the 5th Busan Nursing Academic Awards hosted by the Busan Nurses Association (BNA).

The Busan Nursing Academic Award is a prestigious academic award in the field of nursing that selects and awards excellent papers written by nurses who are striving for the development of nursing.

Choi Mi-Ae (Korea Hospital, Busan), who received the Excellence Award, was awarded with her master's thesis 'Incidence and risk factors of medical device-related pressure injuries among patients undergoing prone position spine surgery in the operating room' published in the SSCI journal <Journal of Tissue Viability>.

Through this paper, she received excellent evaluation by observing the status of skin pressure sores and pressure sores on the oral mucosa before and after surgery and identifying the incidence and risk factors.

Together with her, Kim Soo-Hyeon (Busan Medical Center) received the Participation Award for her paper 'Relationship between physical and physiological characteristics and oral mucosal pressure sores in intubated patients in the intensive care unit' published in the SSCI journal Biological Research for Nursing.

She collected saliva and bacteria from the oral cavity of ICU patients and analyzed the relationship between these and oral mucosal pressure sores by real-time PCR analysis, and the results of her research were recognized.

Professor Kim Myeong-Soo (Dept. of Nursing) said, "I think it is very meaningful that one university produced two winners of the Busan Nursing Science Award. I will continue to do my best to discover and guide excellent dissertations of graduate students in connection with the field.

The 5th Busan Nursing Academic Award selected and awarded a total of 9 excellent theses from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2021 for theses published in nursing and related journals or for master's and doctoral degree theses. <Pukyong Today>
