The Advanced Mechanical Engineering Based Convergence Technology X-Corps (Director Ahn Yong-Sik) of Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) earned the glory of winning the grand prize in the 'Research Result Contest of On-site Human Resources in the Science and Engineering, X-Corps Festival 2021' which was held under the auspice of Ministry of Science and ICT(MSIT), managed by the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Council of Advanced Mechanical Engineering Based Convergence Technology X-Corp.

The CAL team (Advisory Prof. Joo Moon-Gap), composed of Jeon Joo-Hyeon (2nd year in Master's, Smart Robot Convergence & Application), Lee Jae-Hyeok (3rd year, Dept. of Information and Communications Engineering) and Choi Yong-Hoon (3rd year, Dept. of Information and Communications Engineering), from Pukyong National University's Advanced Mechanical Engineering Based Convergence Technology X-Corp, won the grand prize of the Minister of Science, Technology and Information Technology in this competition in which 73 teams selected from 25 university research groups across the country participated.

The Pukyong National University team has been recognized for its excellent research achievements by presenting the 'Fish growth and fed optimization system for smart farms using deep neural network' in this competition, which competes with industry experts to conduct on-site problem-solving research.

In this study, they presented an automated smart aquaculture system that can solve the problems of how to measure the size of fish and how to determine when to feed them that occur in tilapia farms.

Their proposed system can calculate fish sizes by detecting fish using infrared images and YOLO, a deep neural network model. In addition, it is possible to manage the farm in an eco-friendly and systematic manner by notifying in real time whether there is feed remaining on the surface of the water.

Including the CAL team receiving the grand prize, the MeetMeat team receiving a silver award, and the ECO team receiving a bronze medal, Pukyong National University's Advanced Mechanical Engineering Based Convergence Technology X-Corp achieved achievements that all three participating teams received awards. <Pukyong Today>
