As a steppingstone for leading the 4th industrial revolution, Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) started to reorganize the academic system by establishing a separate college as a new platform.
Pukyong National University held an online workshop to announce the launch of the College of Information Technology and Convergence called 'the AI Era, looking into the Future of Education' at 1:30 pm on December 22 in the conference room on the second floor of the Hyangpa building.
Pukyong National University organized this event to publicize the purpose and development direction of the College of Information Technology and Convergence, which will be established next year, to develop convergence and complex academic education and future talent following the establishment of an undergraduate college dedicated to liberal arts education this year.
It is the first time in 25 years since Pukyong National University was established through the integration of Busan Fisheries University and Pusan Institute of Technology in 1996 that Pukyong University established separate colleges for each academic field, except for the College of Future Convergence which was opened as a lifelong education project of the government.
Pukyong National University has maintained a system of six colleges based on academic fields, namely the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Natural Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Engineering, College of Fisheries Science, and College of Environmental and Marine Science and Technology since its integration.
In Pukyong National University’s College of Information Technology and Convergence, which will be established next year, 14 majors in the field of advanced future industries will be open, including 'Human Bio Convergence', 'Human ICT Convergence, 'Big Data Convergence', and 'Major of Software & AI', to nurture the talents who will lead the 4th industrial revolution era and future high-tech new industries.
On this day, about 50 people, including President Jang Young-Soo, professors in charge, faculty members from the College of Information Technology and Convergence, and invited outsiders, attended the workshop online, provided with the introduction on College of Information Technology and Convergence and lectures by outsiders, including lecture 'The role of Korean universities: Focusing on nurturing human resources with practical skills' by President Kim Jin-Hyoung from the Incheon Jaeneung University (Chair-Professor of Chung-Ang University), 'AI and ethics' by Director Song Dae-Seop from Agenda Research of Naver Corporation.
Song Ha-Joo, Director of the College of Information Technology and Convergence, said, "Taking this new college as an opportunity, we expect that it will lead the development of new academics and industries and become a leading example of innovation in regional national universities through efforts to actively utilize its capabilities as a specialized comprehensive university." <Pukyong Today>
