Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) held the ‘PKNU Peace Concert’ wishing for peace in Ukraine at the University Theater on the afternoon of March 16.

Pukyong National University organized this concert for students, faculty members, and alumni to pray for the peace settlement in Ukraine, which is suffering from war, and to share the importance of world peace.

The concert was held for an hour and a half under the theme of 'Elegy', performed by the Busan Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and conducted by Oh Choong-Geun, both Art Director of BSO, a chair professor of Pukyong National University.

Local musicians such as baritone Park Dae-Yong, violinist Kim Joo-Young, and an oboist Ko Kwan-Soo took the stage as collaborators and performed musics including 'You raise me up (Rolf Løvland)', 'Wood memorial stone: Bi-mok (Jang Yil-Nam)', and 'Gabriel's Oboe (Ennio Morricone)' presented to the audience.

Pukyong National University held a concert in the presence of only about 100 people who applied in advance to comply with quarantine rules, and the event was streamed live broadcasts through Pukyong National University's YouTube channel.

President Jang Young-Soo said, "Pukyong National University, located in the world's only special peace and culture zone for the UN, is taking the lead in spreading the value of peace and coexistence to the local community and the world by operating the Pukyong UN Supporters, a student peace volunteer group that provides repaying activities to the veterans of foreign countries who fought for the Korean War," he added, "On behalf of Pukyong National University, I pray that this concert will serve as an opportunity to spread the message of healing so that the world can overcome moments of pain and crisis by uniting the hearts of our members through this concert."

Pukyong National University is actively engaged in humanitarian aid, including a donation of 11 million won to the Ukrainian embassy on March 17th, which teachers and staff members collected to support Ukrainian refugees from the beginning of this month. <Pukyong Today>
