Nurturing talents specialized in SW, a leading industry in Busan by linking universities and companies
- 12 institutions including PKNU promote 'SW specialists training business' ... approx. 7.8 billion won of investments over 4 years
To nurture talents specialized in SW tailored to the field demand in the Busan area, a large-scale consortium is formed between universities and companies to jointly design and operate the curriculum, and to link up to recruitment.
Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that it has been selected for the 'SW professional human resources training business' by the Ministry of science and ICT and the institute of information & communications technology planning & evaluation (IITP). A consortium of 12 institutions, including universities and corporations, organized by Pukyong National University (chief professor responsible, Noh Maeng-Seok, major of big data, in the photo) has been selected as the 'academy for digital smart Busan' for this project.
Accordingly, for the advancement and smartization of the leading industry in Busan for 4 years with support of about 7.8 billion won, the consortium trains more than 670 SW specialists for 4 years through 16 weeks of intensive training in technical education for students and graduates of Pukyong National University, Dong-a university, and Dong-eui university who have taken basic SW courses such as python and deep learning in five education fields: digital finance, smart healthcare, big data, smart ship/port, and smart factory.
Companies and universities jointly operate 5 advanced projects based on actual corporate tasks in the Busan area including development of a QR payment app for recharging the balance, development of an app that reduces the work of nurses by linking AI robots, analysis of the movement of tourists in Busan using GIS, prediction of ship arrival time based on AI, vision inspection system using deep learning.
Organizations participating in the consortium include Dong-a university (prof. Kim Sang-Jin) and Dong-eui university (prof. Park Yoo-Hyun), Shinsegae I&C inc. (managing director Ku Sung-Gi), a global digital representative company, BNK system co., ltd. (team leader Choi Min-Hyuk), a small and medium-sized company in Busan, SCT corp. (CEO Seo Chang-Sung), Intown co., ltd. (CEO Bae Jun-Hee), Pine information technology co., ltd. (director Jang Sang-Gi), ST research co., ltd. (CEO Kwon Min-Soo), Toogram systems co., ltd. (CEO Seo Young-Woo), Fin insight co., ltd. (CEO Lee Min-Ho), a small and medium-sized company based in Seoul, and Busan economic promotion agency (team leader Kim Dong-Wook), a regional promotion agency.
For job recommendation and on-the-job training support, the consortium cooperates with Nexen corp., Dongwon development co., ltd., Seun steel co., ltd., Hwaseung enterprise co., ltd., HD co., ltd., the Korea technology finance corporation, the Busan port authority, Dongnam statistics, Dong-eui medical center, the Busan public health policy institute, the biomechanics & biomaterials lab at Pusan national university school of medicine, the cardiovascular center at Pusan national university Yangsan hospital, the Pusan IT partners association, Global fintech industry promotion center, and about 50 small and medium enterprises.
For the successful operation of the project, Pukyong National University will provide cutting-edge training facilities and operating funds, and Shinsegae I&C incorp. will provide SW-related instructors, an educational platform linking e-learning and metaverse, and support for job matching with partners. Incumbents of participating companies, including BNK system co., ltd., became mentors to guide projects or provide career counseling, and Pukyong National University, Dong-a university, and Dong-eui university agreed to mutually recognize credits and share educational infrastructure. Busan metropolitan city promotes the development of educational materials with the Dongnam statistics along with recruitment-scheme support, and the 'learning institutions for youth' supports a space to practice the project promotes connection with the ‘Busan digital innovation academy’. The Korea technology finance corporation supports talent recommendation for excellent local ventures and innovative companies, including technology evaluation and technology guarantee, when starting a technology-related start-up. In addition, the Busan economic promotion agency supports a variety of youth job programs for job linking, such as empowerment of young people and customized job counseling.
"We will do our best to foster excellent SW specialists together with local universities and local companies so that we all can play a leading role in the modernization and smartization of Busan's main industries.
