Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that three students, including Shim Hyun-Bo, were awarded the best prize and excellence prize at the 18th awards for future scientists in Busan.
Shim Hyun-Bo (2nd year candidate in master's course, advisory prof. Kim Mun-Ho), majoring in polymer engineering at Pukyong National University, won the top prize for the engineering category in master's course at the awards of future scientists in Busan this year.
Shim Hyun-Bo received the grand prize for outstanding research achievements, such as synthesis of noble metal and polymer nanocrystalline hybrid materials and their application.
He was recognized for his research on the synthesis of nanocomposite-hydrogels and their application as flow-through catalytic microreactors to solve water pollution problems, the synthesis of noble metal nanostructures using polymers, and the use of visual sensors for iodide ions.
Afandi Mohammad Malik (2nd year candidate in doctoral course, advisor professor Kim Jong-Soo) from the department of display & semiconductor engineering first developed electroluminescent device with a metal-oxide-semiconductor structure that emits far ultraviolet rays and was recognized and received 2nd prize in the engineering category of doctoral program for his research achievements that secured high value for application.
Jeong Hyun-Ji (2nd year candidate in master’s course, advisory prof. Kim Jong-Soo) from the department of display & semiconductor engineering not only formed an electroluminescent device that emits white light through a single material and device on a silicon substrate, unlike existing white devices, but also achieved research results that are expected to reduce the cost and enlarge the area of white devices, and received the 2nd prize in the engineering category of master's program for her contribution to research achievements.
As for the awards of future scientist in Busan, it has been held since 2005 to nurture the next generation of scientific talent in the region, and this year's award ceremony was held on the 7th at the international conference hall on the 12th floor of Busan metropolitan city hall. <Pukyong Today>
