University students repairing a neighbor’s house during winter vacation, “we beat the cold together!”

PKNU social contribution volunteer corps (Representative Kim Dae-Han, 4th-year student majoring in mechanical design engineering) from Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) volunteered to repair a house for a disabled household in Nam-gu with Nam-gu office and Nam-gu volunteer center in Busan for two days on January 30 and 31.
Since 2006, the PKNU social contribution volunteer corps has been carrying out volunteering service to improve the residential environment in about 100 places near the university during vacations or weekends.
About 40 students from the volunteer corps, who were on winter vacation this year, participated in the house repairing volunteer. After moving all the interior furniture, they removed the stained and moldy wallpaper, repainted the wallpaper, and replaced the flooring.
The old gas stove and ventilation hood were removed, and new products were installed, and old aluminum windows were replaced with double pane windows to keep neighbor warm in the winter. They also repaired the front door with a broken doorknob, painted the bathroom, installed insulator, and other facilities.
Employees from the Facility Department of Pukyong National University participated in work that required expertise, such as electricity, and Busan Nam-gu Office and Nam-gu Volunteer Center recommended and selected out vulnerable classes and supported garbage bag and waste collection.
Kim Dae-Han, the representative of the volunteer corps, said, “The cold winter reminded us of our neighbors in need, so we all worked together to do volunteering service. We hope that our repairing works this time will be a small help to our neighbors in enduring the cold and hardships, and the PKNU social contribution volunteer corps will continue to take the lead in solving the difficulties of the local community together.” <Pukyong Today>
