PKNU, Busan city, and Shinhan card started using public and private big data

- agreed to cooperate to nurture talents in the field of data science convergence in the region

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo), Busan metropolitan city (mayor Park Hyung-Joon), and Shinhan card co., ltd. (ceo Moon Dong-Gwon) joined hands to utilize vast amounts of public and private data.

President Jang Young-Soo of Pukyong National University, Park Hyung-Joon, the mayor of Busan, ceo Yoo Tae-Hyun from the Shinhan card group held a meeting on the morning of February 22nd in a conference room on the 26th floor of Busan City Hall, signed a business agreement for revitalizing the economy of small and medium traders and manufacturers and fostering talent in the field of data science convergence through analysis and research on data-based policies.

This agreement was prepared to build a strong cooperation system between science, industry, and academia so that Busan can leap forward as the number one destination for digital transformation in both name and reality.

The city of Busan and Shinhan card present strategies for the future growth of traditional markets and small and medium-sized merchants using vast public and private data to revitalize the local economy, while Pukyong National University aims to nurture talents with bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in the field of data science in the region.

Accordingly, Pukyong National University's college of information convergence, a college specializing in data and information, and the department of human ICT convergence participate to discover cases of using big data owned by Busan city and Shinhan card, and strive to foster talent in the field of data science convergence and develop data science with practical capabilities to be active in the industrial field.

Prior to the signing ceremony, professor Kim Jeong-Hwan (human ICT convergence) from Pukyong National University shared cases and achievements of ‘supporters for digital transformation of small businesses’ and ‘big data supporters in Busan’ which are ongoing convergence talent training programs in cooperation with Naver and Busan city.

The specific fields of cooperation under this business agreement are cooperation on data analysis and policy research for the promotion of consumption economy and tourism in Busan using public and private data and support for small and medium-sized businesses, to collaborate in fostering talent in the field of regional data science convergence through participation in data analysis and data utilization by university students, master's and doctoral students, and to realize the social value of big data and mutual cooperation to develop the data ecosystem in the region.
