- new departments related to semiconductor, digital finance, and smart mobility in the next year…increasing entrance number to 38 or more
Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has been allowed to increase its quota of 38 more students according to the plan to establish departments in high-tech fields such as semiconductors next year.
As a result of the 2024 general university quota allocation announced by the Ministry of education on April 27, Pukyong National University has finally confirmed a 38-person increase (net increase) with the decision of the Ministry of education. This is the largest number of admissions in Busan.
The Ministry of Education announced a net increase of 1,829 students, including 1,012 students from non-metropolitan universities and 817 students from universities in the metropolitan area, to foster talent in high-tech fields such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
Pukyong National University plans to establish three new departments next year, including the department of nano convergence semiconductor engineering, the department of digital finance, and the department of smart mobility engineering, to nurture high-tech talent, a total of 139 freshmen will be recruited through university self-adjustment, including net increase in quota for the admission quota of these new departments.
Pukyong National University expects to gain momentum in nurturing convergence talents for the development of regional strategic industries by utilizing close cooperation with local governments and local industries based on the university's specialization capabilities following the establishment of high-tech departments and the increase in the number of admissions.
The department of nano convergence semiconductor engineering plans to design a curriculum that combines next-generation semiconductors and nanotechnology based on the demand for new industries in the southeastern region to increase the competitiveness of the country and region's high-tech industries. To nurture on-site talent, a cooperative system with BTOZ co., ltd., a semiconductor company, was established.
The department of digital finance trains fintech professionals based on Busan's efforts to innovate as a digital financial hub. Pukyong National University plans to jointly operate this department with Dongseo university to maximize students' high-tech capabilities.
The department of smart mobility engineering nurtures talents who can respond to the next-generation mobility industry, such as intelligent ships, intelligent robots, and intelligent drones, and leads the development of experts in the field of smart mobility specialized in the field of water and marine based on the demand of the local community.
Following the recent selection of the campus innovation park project worth 53 billion won to create an urban high-tech industrial complex in universities, as the number of quotas in the high-tech field was confirmed, Pukyong National University is participating in the contest and promotion including 'regional semiconductor joint research', 'semiconductor specialized university' and 'STARTUP Co-Op University for Transition of edu (SCOUT)' hosted by the government and Busan city and plans to create a synergistic effect. <Pukyong Today>
