<JoongAng ilbo> paid attention to Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo), which is stepping up to innovate industry and university cooperation with the region.
This is from a planning article published on July 13 by the <JoongAng ilbo>, titled 'universities go hand in hand with regional innovation'.
Pukyong National University was introduced in this special article with Hanyang university (erica-education research industry cluster at Ansan), Dankook university (Cheonan), and Kangwon national university. What these universities have in common is that they are innovative universities that are promoting the 'campus innovation park project'.
The 'campus innovation park project' is a large-scale joint national policy project of three ministries, including the Ministry of education, Ministry of land, infrastructure and transport, and the Ministry of SMEs and startups, introduced to build a university-centered innovation ecosystem by actively utilizing the locational advantages and innovative capabilities of universities.
As Pukyong National University was selected for this year's project, the university plans to designate a 18,000㎡ site within the Yongdang campus as an urban high-tech industrial complex by investing 53 billion won for five years, including government and municipal expenses, plans to establish an industry-university-research innovation hub by 2028 with a total floor area of 20,000㎡ equipped with cultural and welfare facilities as well as space for industry-university cooperation where companies move in.
<JoongAng Ilbo> paid attention to Pukyong National University’s plan and covered Pukyong National University’s vision in detail with an article titled 'Creating a mecca for cooperation between industry-university-research institutes by opening an entire campus'.
| Yongdang campus, the Dragon valley’s 'soaring'
In the article, it says "Pukyong National University has been promoting the 'Dragon valley project' to create a specialized campus where industry, academia, and research can collaborate on Yongdang campus. As a result, the university has been selected consecutively for large-scale government financial support projects based on industry, university, research cooperation, such as the recent campus innovation park project, LINC 3.0 (leaders in industry-university cooperation), STARTUP Co-Op University for Transition of edu (SCOUT), and undergraduate research program (URP).
The article then analyzed, "This achievement is the result of Pukyong National University's long-term focus on realizing the campus master plan to create Daeyeon Campus as an education, research, and welfare-centered campus that conducts general education courses such as undergraduate courses, and Yongdang Campus as a specialized campus for industry-university-research cooperation with 250 companies and several national research institutes."
As mentioned in the article, Pukyong National University's Yongdang campus, Dragon valley is already famous as a 'business-friendly campus'.
The article emphasized the efforts of Pukyong National University, saying, "Since Dragon valley is designated as a new technology start-up cluster area, a R&D special zone in Busan, and a start-up promotion zone, various tax benefits and special cases are applied to resident companies to provide optimal conditions for business activities. In addition, Pukyong National University has established a dedicated support organization (contact center for corporate support) for resident companies and has continued its efforts to advance R&D, industry-university cooperation, and startup support infrastructure."
| Busan set out to provide special support
Busan is also keeping pace with Pukyong National University, which has started to innovate with the region and industry. In the article, it says "Busan city confirmed its unprecedented financial support of 11 billion won for the creation of Pukyong National University's campus innovation park, and showed a strong will to promote the project by proposing the formation of a comprehensive support TF related to permits and permits led by Busan city. Pukyong National University campus innovation park site is included in the regional innovative free economic zone expansion plan promoted by Busan city in 2025, so it is expected that greater synergy will be enjoyed when the innovation park is completed."
Busan has already established the Busan startup support center at the Yongdang campus in 2015 and has supported about 100 start-up companies annually with a budget of around 3.5 billion won. In addition, it has been creating a successful model for creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem through cooperation between the region, industry, and university, such as cooperating with Pukyong National University in an industry-academia-research complex development project and expanding local government projects into government projects.
In the future, Pukyong National University's Dragon valley will grow into a space where 500 companies and 5,000 technical and research personnel reside.
President Jang Young-Soo, "We, Pukyong National University, will not satisfy with the current plan for the Dragon valley in Yongdang campus and will develop it into the largest region, industry, university, research institute cooperation cluster in Korea. I expect that the Campus Innovation Park project will be a key project to achieve the goal of our university, taking a leap forward as a regionally based global university." <Pukyong Today>
