PKNU preliminarily selected for the 'LAMP project', a lamp for basic science research
- with 15.5 billion won in government funds secured, PKNU begins innovative reorganization of the research institute and joint research on the water cycle
Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that it has been preliminarily selected for the 'LAMP (learning & academic research institution for master’s·phd students, and postdocs) project 2023' hosted by the Ministry of education for research and innovation in the university’s basic science field.
The eight universities selected as preliminary candidates for the LAMP project announced by the Ministry of education on September 26 are Pukyong National University, Seoul national university, Sogang university, Gyeongsang national university, Kangwon national university, Kyungpook national university, Pusan national university, and Chosun university.
The LAMP project is a large-scale new support project that helps strengthen capabilities in the basic science field by providing government support of approximately 3 billion won annually to each university for up to five years.
The eight universities selected this time will select one field out of ten in the basic science field and conduct theme-centered joint research without any barriers between departments and majors.
Pukyong National University has appointed professor Kim Young-Seok (major of environmental geosciences) as head of the project team, receives up to 15.5 billion won from the government over 5 years, and plans to conduct joint research on the water cycle in the fields of earth, ocean, and atmospheric sciences through an innovative reorganization of the university's research institute.
Pukyong National University received an excellent evaluation for this project contest by presenting an ambitious joint research portfolio aimed at taking a leap forward to future space planets as a global center for water cycle research. In particular, the possibility of creating new convergence research was highly recognized by forming a joint research team with various water-related departments and various majors.
President Jang Young-Soo at Pukyong National University said, "Through this project, Pukyong National University will contribute to the development of the basic science field as a center for new knowledge creation and will work with a sense of mission for the mutual growth of the region and the university so that excellent talents can flow into the local community." <Pukyong Today>
