Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that the ProACT student team of Kim Dae-Hee, Park Seong-Moon, Song Jeong-Hye, and Oh Min-Je, won the grand prize in the 2023 LINC 3.0 capstone design fair.

The student team from Pukyong National University was honored with the grand prize for its research results on conductive polyurethane sensors for electronic performance tracking systems (EPTS) at the awards ceremony held at the university-academia cooperation expo 2023 held at the Daejon convention center (DCC) from November 8th to 10th.

The LINC 3.0 capstone design fair, hosted by the Ministry of education and the National research foundation of Korea, was carried out for fostering creative talent that meets the needs of local communities and businesses by revitalizing the field-oriented curriculum of the LINC 3.0 business and sharing and disseminating best practices.

The research outcome for which the Pukyong National University student team received the grand prize was the transformation of existing polyurethane into conductive polyurethane by adding specific functional groups and conductors through organic chemical synthesis.

They created a strain sensor using this material and applied it to detect movement and received excellent reviews from the evaluation panel for suggesting the possibility of using this material in various wearable devices.

Professor Lee Eun-Kwang (chemical engineering), who advised them, said, "As technology for analyzing physical data of sports players advances, it is expected that the body-friendly conductive elastic fibers and patches developed by the students will help analyze muscle movements and prevent injuries. Also, it has academic value as well as economic efficiency and utility, so it can be used in a variety of products, resulting in good results." <Pukyong Today>
