Pukyong National University has announced that researchers at the research center for marine-integrated biomedical technology (director Jeong Won-Kyo, professor at biomedical engineering), the key research institutes for university in the field of science and engineering, have won numerous awards at domestic and international academic conferences through convergence research on ocean and fisheries biohealthcare.

At the Korea federation of fisheries science and technology societies (KOFFST) international academic conference 2023 recently held at BEXCO in Busan, professor Kim Young-Mok (food engineering), a co-researcher from the research center for marine-integrated biomedical technology at Pukyong National University, won the 'Won Jong-Hoon academic award', and professor Fazlurrahman Khan (institute of fisheries science) and research professor Kim Tae-Hee each won the 'young scientist award'.

Professor Kim Young-Mok was recognized for his contributions to the development of domestic fisheries science and the promotion of the fisheries industry through the development of basic and applied technologies in the seafood field, and professor Fazlurrahman Khan and research professor Kim Tae-Hee were recognized for their research achievements for suggesting 'control technology for mono- and polymicrobial species biofilm using fucoidan-gold nanoparticles' and 'study on the skin regenerative efficacy of wound dressing in the form of a PCL/gelatin-based nanofibrous membrane obtained by securing PDRN derived from unused marine biological resources' respectively.

At this conference, key researcher Tabassum Nazia received an award for her research on the use of aminoglycosides against bacterial diseases, researcher Kim Nam-Gyun received an award for a study on the efficacy of isofluoroglucin A incorporated into hydrogels as a drug and cross-linking agent, and researcher Choi Ji-Hwan received the 'poster award' for his research on natural antioxidant treatment conditions to prevent discoloration of tuna.

In addition, researchers Park Dong-Joo and Mun Seung-Hee from this center each won the 'oral presentation award' at the 19th conference of the Korea society of marine biotechnology held recently at the Busan port international exhibition & convention center (BPEX). Researcher Park Dong-Joo and Mun Seung-Hee received excellent reviews by suggesting a study on the diabetic wound healing efficacy of photo-cross linkable biopolymers synthesized with gallic acid, and extracted elastin from tuna hearts discarded after processing marine products and analyzed its characteristics and research results on biocompatibility, respectively.

Along with them, researchers Lee Ji-Ho and Kim Young-Eun won the 'young investigator' and 'poster awards' at the SPIE ABC 2023 international academic conference held recently in Jeju Island respectively.

Pukyong National University the research center for marine-integrated biomedical technology has been actively carrying out convergent group research after being selected for the university key research institute support project, a large-scale national project of the Ministry of education and the National research foundation of Korea since 2021, and up to date, the center is recognized for its outstanding achievements in multidisciplinary convergence research by publishing 105 SCI(E)-level papers, presenting over 260 cases at domestic and international joint research and academic conferences, applying for domestic and foreign patents, conducted international joint research, and carrying out over 100 cases of joint technology development between industry, academia, and research and sharing materials, producing 21 experts in specialized research institutes and universities in the field of water and marine biohealthcare. <Pukyong Today>
