Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that 14 sophomores studying police science & criminal psychology at the college of future convergence received the award from Busan techno park in recognition of their excellent research achievements in the 'Busan area motiveless crime prevention project'.

This project is based on conducting a survey of 200 citizens of Busan to prevent motiveless crimes while students at Pukyong National University taking major courses, and then researching and presenting measures to prevent motiveless crimes.

As this year's 'theories of police investigation' has been selected as a project to support university lectures to resolve local issues hosted by Busan city and Busan techno park, the activities of students taking this lecture were recognized as an excellent project specialized for Busan city.

According to their research and investigation, 108 out of 200 people (54%) responded that 'motiveless crime is likely to have occurred to themselves or people around them', showing great public concern about crime.

Regarding the perception of criminals, online activity was the highest response (multiple responses) to the environmental factors that influence 'MZ generation (millennials & gen Z)'s motiveless crime occurrence factors', followed by home environment (130 people), social environment (102), and culture of hatred and discrimination (101).

Regarding the relationship between 'motiveless crimes' and copycat crimes such as murder warning posts, 125 people answered 'there is a very strong relationship' and 53 people responded 'there is a strong relationship', with 89% of respondents recognizing the relationship as strong. Additionally, when asked about 'strengthening punishment for motiveless crimes', 194 people, most of the respondents answered, 'there is a need to further strengthen punishment'.

When asked about (multiple responses) effective government measures to prevent 'motiveless crimes', 149 people answered 'strengthening punishment', 106 people answered 'psychological counseling and treatment for anger management disorders and mental disorders', 82 people answered 'measures to alleviate social isolation' and when asked about (multiple responses) measures at a personal level, 112 people answered 'strengthening interest in local residents and the underprivileged', 96 people answered 'citizens reporting intention' , and 76 people answered 'equip with personal self-defense products'.

Pukyong National University students are actively working to spread the results of the project by providing the results of this research to high school students and clubs in Seoul and Daegu, which have recently been carrying out prevention activities against 'motiveless crimes', as well as providing them with mentoring and seminars.

Also, they actively participated in the 'research project on robots and drones' at the recently held 2023 conference for 'Busan police future security' and received a certificate of appreciation from the commissioner of the Busan police agency. <Pukyong Today>
