Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that it has begun laying the foundation for a glocal university by implementing a certificate scheme to raise the level of major courses.

Pukyong National University, hosted by the Future-ready education center (director Park Jong-Yong), promoted a pilot project for the 'major course certificate' last year, and certified on January 22nd for four majors including microbiology, chemical engineering, aquatic life medicine, and the major of environmental geosciences.

The 'major course certificate' is a system established by Pukyong National University to improve the quality of major education, which is the basis of university education.

Pukyong National University has stepped up to lay the foundation for maximizing the effects of convergence, integration, and connection between majors pursued by glocal universities by establishing a systematic system in which each department and major in the undergraduate program independently inspects and improves the curriculum.

This system is operated in a way that each department or major writes its own evaluation report, which is evaluated by a certificate assessment group, and the Future-ready education center finalizes and grants certificates.

The assessment is carried out in detail in 6 areas and 12 detailed items over three stages, including curriculum development and composition, curriculum operation and support, and curriculum evaluation and improvement. Indicators are used to evaluate whether the educational goals are well connected with the university's mid- to long-term development plan and whether the curriculum reflects domestic and international conditions and education satisfaction.

As a systematic certificate assessment is conducted according to evaluation indicators, it is expected to take approximately 6 months from application for certification to final certification. Certification types include 4-year certification, 2-year certificate, and non-qualified.

Pukyong National University awards certificates, commendations, and subsidies to the four departments that have been certified through the pilot project and supports continuous improvement. This year, the university plans to expand the system by promoting certification of more than 10 departments and majors.

Park Jong-Yong, director of the Future-ready education center, said, "We will continue to expand the major certification system and support analysis and improvement on major education to contribute to the training of convergence and creative talent." <Pukyong Today>
