PKNU-UNIST-Busan TP-Ulsan TP Join Forces to Establish and Operate the ‘Marine Fisheries-AI Convergence Joint Research Center’
- Agreement and Plaque Unveiling Ceremony Held at Pukyong National University Yongdang Campus on the 15th

An AI convergence research hub for the ocean and fisheries sectors in the Busan-Ulsan region is now being operated at the Yongdang Campus of Pukyong National University.
Pukyong National University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Busan Technopark (Busan TP), and Ulsan Technopark (Ulsan TP) signed a mutual cooperation agreement on September 15 at Building 2 of the Yongdang Campus, for the establishment and operation of the Ocean and Fisheries AI Convergence Joint Research Center and held a commemorative nameplate unveiling ceremony.
The signing and unveiling ceremony were attended by Bae Sang-Hoon, President of Pukyong National University; Park Jong-Rae, President of UNIST; Kim Hyung-Gyun, President of Busan TP; and Cho Young-Shin, President of Ulsan TP, along with other representatives from the participating institutions.
The Marine and Fisheries AI Convergence Joint Research Center have been established and is being operated to facilitate industry-academia joint research that integrates cutting-edge AI technologies into the marine and fisheries sector. Pukyong National University has allocated a dedicated space for the center on the second floor of the Section Collabo Lab in Building 2 of its Yongdang Campus.
With leading research-oriented universities from Busan and Ulsan joining forces with local technoparks to run this center, it is expected to serve as a major hub for industry-academia research and regional development, especially in light of the upcoming relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan.
The participating institutions plan to cooperate in establishing the administrative and institutional framework and building infrastructure for the center; forming an organizational structure, drafting operational regulations, securing budgets, and providing administrative support; planning and conducting joint research projects in areas such as marine, fisheries, and AI-related policy, as well as securing and dispatching research personnel; disseminating research outcomes and promoting technology transfer and commercialization; developing and operating master’s, doctoral, and professional training programs; and sharing operational information and holding regular consultative meetings related to the center.
With the establishment of the Marine and Fisheries AI Convergence Joint Research Center on its Yongdang Campus, Pukyong National University plans to further expand its efforts in nurturing specialized human resources and conducting related research in the marine and fisheries sector. The university will also continue to strengthen collaboration with local institutions and universities. <Pukyong Today>
