Pukyong National University Records ‘Highest-Ever’ Early Admission Competition Rate: 8.75:1 for 2026 Academic Year
- 24,095 applicants for 2,753 slots; 8.85:1 competition rate for quota-based admissions

Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-Hoon) has recorded its highest-ever early admission competition rate, reaching 8.75:1 for the 2026 academic year.
According to the university’s Admissions Office (Director Park In-Ho), the application period for the 2026 early admission concluded on September 12. A total of 24,095 applicants competed for 2,753 available spots, resulting in an overall competition rate of 8.75:1. For quota-based admissions, 22,680 applicants applied for 2,564 openings, yielding a competition rate of 8.85:1.
In comparison, last year’s early admission recorded an overall competition rate of 8.57:1 (24,967 applicants for 2,914 spots) and a quota-based rate of 9:1 (23,511 applicants for 2,585 spots).
By admissions type within the quota-based recruitment, the Academic Excellence Track recorded a competition rate of 6.52:1 (8,908 applicants for 1,366 spots), the General Admission Track saw 10.44:1 (2,255 applicants for 216 spots), and the Regional Innovation Talent Track marked 7.39:1 (3,311 applicants for 448 spots). Meanwhile, the Practical Talent Track recorded the highest competition rate at 18.79:1 (357 applicants for 19 spots), followed by the School Life Excellence Track at 16.96:1 (6,648 applicants for 392 spots). Among the social equity tracks, Type I recorded 8.05:1 (829 applicants for 103 spots), Type II saw 18.74:1 (356 applicants for 19 spots), and Type III recorded 15:1 (15 applicants for 1 spot).
In the non-quota admissions category, the Rural Talent Track recorded a competition rate of 8.24:1 (766 applicants for 93 spots), the Future Talent Track showed 4.51:1 (248 applicants for 55 spots), and the Specialized High School Track marked 10.61:1 (350 applicants for 33 spots).
The departments with the highest competition rates were Korean Language and Literature in the Academic Excellence Track (35.4:1 with 5 seats and 177 applicants), Fashion Design in the General Admission Track (23.67:1 with 3 seats and 71 applicants), Energy Resources Engineering in the Regional Innovation Talent Track (17.50:1 with 4 seats and 70 applicants), and International and Area Studies in the School Life Excellence Track (45:1 with 5 seats and 225 applicants). <Pukyong Today>
