Pukyong National University Hosts “Future Talent Selection and Development Strategy Seminar” in Response to the Relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the AI Mega-Transformation

Keynote presentations by the Director-General for Fisheries Policy at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and a former Vice Minister of Education, among others

Held on the 9th at The Westin Josun Busan; attended by high school principals and education officials from the BusanUlsanGyeongnam region


Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-Hoon) has launched full-scale discussions on cultivating future-ready talent in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the education community across the BusanUlsanGyeongnam region, in response to the ministry’s relocation to Busan and the era of AI mega-transformation.

 

On the morning of February 9, the university hosted the “Future Talent Selection and Development Strategy Seminar” at the Grand Ballroom of The Westin Josun Busan (Haeundae), with participation from high school principals and education professionals from the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions.

 

Having posted a record-high competition rate in this year’s regular admissions, Pukyong National University organized the event under the University Support Program for Contributions to High School Education to share its approach to nurturing future talent and to respond proactively to the rapidly changing educational environment.

 

The seminar featured keynote presentations by Nam Seung-Yoon, Deputy Director of the Admissions Office at Pukyong National University; Choi Hyun-Ho, Director-General for Fisheries Policy at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries; and Jeong Jong-Cheol, former Vice Minister of Education.

 

Deputy Director Nam delivered a presentation titled “Directions for Talent Selection at Pukyong National University,” outlining the university’s current status and future talent selection strategy, alongside major achievementsincluding its ranking first among national universities in research funding per full-time faculty memberas the institution marks its 80th anniversary.

 

Director-General Choi followed with a presentation on “Vision and Strategies for Fostering Fisheries Talent,” introducing talent development strategies aligned with national fisheries and marine industry policy directions in conjunction with the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as well as a roadmap for nurturing fisheries talent jointly developed by the university and the local community.

 

In his presentation titled “Talent Profiles and Future-Oriented Selection Challenges in the Era of Mega-Transformation,” Jeong Jong-Cheol, former Vice Minister of Education, outlined the shifting core competencies required in the age of AI and digital transformation, and presented key response tasks in light of changing visions for future talent and evolving selection systems.

 

President Bae Sang-Hoon of Pukyong National University stated, “With the sweeping wave of the AI mega-transformation and the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan, the region’s fisheries, marine, and logistics industry ecosystem is being rapidly reshaped.” He added, “We hope this seminar will serve as an opportunity for universities, high schools, and the local community to work in close coordination and discuss how best to select and cultivate outstanding future talent together.” <Pukyong Today>
