The program named ‘Diving IN startups’ hosted by the ministry of oceans and fisheries was held at Pukyong National University in Busan on April 12 to spread start-up in the maritime and fisheries industry.

The ministry of oceans and fisheries held programs such as the ‘fisheries start-up talk concert for youth’, which Cho Seung-Hwan, minister of oceans and fisheries and young people studying oceans and fisheries communicate on the topic of start-up on the second floor of the administration building at Pukyong National University in the afternoon.

At the talk concert, Minister Cho communicated with about 100 young people, including students from Pukyong National University, who participated in the event, conducting Q&A related to start-up in the maritime and fisheries industry.

Minister Cho said to young people, “The concept of a lifetime job and a lifetime job is now changing. I think the cycle of people getting a job and then starting a business, and then starting a business and then getting a job, will continue,” he added, “If you do your own work, you will definitely feel and learn what kind of process the field flows and what kind of barriers there are.”

He also continued to stress, “I think it can be a great asset in life even if you try to start a business during your student or youth period and fail. I sincerely support you to take on the challenge with passion,” added, “The maritime and fisheries industry is a field with infinite potential for change, so I will do my best to support and solve difficulties through policy when starting a business is at a loss.”

Along with Minister Cho's talk concert, a lecture program was held to listen to entrepreneurial stories and success secrets from young CEOs who are senior entrepreneurs in the fisheries industry.

Yang Seung-Chan, ceo from Starstech, who developed an eco-friendly snow remover using starfish, which was treated as marine waste in the past, and Lee Hee-Jae, ceo from Seaweed, who developed cultured meat based on seaweed, gave lectures on strategies for successful startups.

In addition, events such as startup briefings and consultations were held by the Korea institute for marine science & technology promotion for entrepreneurs and prospective entrepreneurs in the maritime and fisheries industry. <Pukyong Today>
