Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) held a ceremony for the 'coastal fishing ship-boarding training 2023' at the reclaimed pier of Yongho-man bay near the campus Daeyeon on the afternoon of June 27th.
On this day, a total of 117 people, including 75 students from the division of marine production system management, the department of fisheries education, a major of electrical engineering, and including crew members, started the 30-day ocean ship-board training.
Following the departure ceremony, they set sail from Busan on Pukyong National University’s high-tech training ship (captain Ryu Gyeong-Jin, 3,997 tons) and sail 2,240 nautical miles (4,148 km), including calls at Sokcho, Masan, and Osaka, Japan, for 30 days until the 26th of next month to carry out ship-board training.
With 67 years of tradition, Pukyong National University’s ship-board training program, which laid the foundation for Korea’s ocean industry, began with Kim Jae-Cheol, an honorary chairperson of Dongwon group entering Ji-long port in Taiwan with 48 students in 1957 for the first time in Korea, and today it has established itself as a high-tech experts training program in the maritime and fisheries.
Through this program, Pukyong National University students will learn in the east sea, south sea, west sea of Korea and the Japanese sea, and learn the navigator and engineer programs on the sea in accordance with the STCW International Convention, including courses in fishing, navigation, electronic communication operation, ship engine operation, and automatic control system operation.
In each port of call, they will visit universities and institutions related to maritime and fisheries to engage in exchange activities and develop field-specific capabilities by operating maritime and fisheries education programs for youth. <Pukyong Today>
