The student team of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Systems Engineering at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) received the 2nd prize, the presidential award of Korea Research Institute of Ships & Oceans Engineering, in the 2nd Idea Competition for the Offshore Plant Service Industry recently held by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering.

Seo Myeong-Seon (4th year), Kim Joon-Ha (1st year in master's degree), Lee Yoo-Jin (4th year), Kim Tae-Wan (3rd year), Koo Min-Seok (3rd year), and Park Min-Ji (3rd year), the student team (Advisory Prof. Bae Seong-Yong) from the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Systems Engineering at Pukyong National University, submitted 'POSEMI platform' with the theme of deriving ideas for shape modification to improve the performance of K-Semi offshore platform and were praised for the idea.

They were praised for inventiveness and concept feasibility by suggesting an efficient way to improve the seakeeping performance of the existing model for semi-submersible offshore platform for oil production.

From this idea, they applied a folding heave damping plate to the existing K-semi submersible offshore platform model to reduce up-and-down motion caused by waves while implementing a plan to increase restoration performance.

Especially, their outstanding capabilities gained recognized for excellent results by designing semi-submersible offshore platform by themselves, and conducting performance tests in the ship tank.

At the same time, the student team (Advisory Prof. Park Jong-Yong) of Heo Seong-Mun (3rd year), Lee Tae-Woo(3rd year), Kim Do-Gyun(3rd year), Jo Yun-Seong (2nd year), and Heo Jae-Hyeong (2nd year) from the same department, won the Achievement Award in this competition. <Pukyong Today>
