PKNU celebrated a visit of honorary president Kim Jae-Cheol of Dongwon Group to the old school

Kim Jae-Cheol, the honorary president of Dongwon Group, also an alumnus of Pukyong National University, visited his old school on January 25, ahead of the Lunar New Year's holidays.

Mr. Kim graduated from the Department of Fisheries at the National Fisheries University of Busan which is one of the former Pukyong National University. The honorary president Kim, the first-generation founder of Dongwon Industries, who founded Dongwon Industries in 1969 and pioneered the tuna market and led Korea into an advanced deep-sea fishing, retired honorably in 2019, 50 years after its founding, and stepped down from the front line of management.

The visit of Mr. Kim, who has supported facilities, scholarships, and educational programs for the development of Pukyong National University, is to look into the development progress of his old school and to discuss educational development plans with the University President Jang Young-Soo and appointed professors.

Mr. Kim, who established the Dongwon Academic Research Foundation and is focusing on training younger students, spent 7 billion won in 2010 to build the Dongwon Jang Bogo Hall, a building expressing his love for school friends, and donated it to Pukyong National University.

On the day, Mr. Kim visited the Baekyong Tower with President Jang Young-Soo and appointed professors, and visited the Dongwon Jang Bogo Hall, looking around the recently changed appearance of the school, saying, "It's been a long time since my last visit here, the whole view is just beautiful."

Then he had a meeting with President Jang Young-Soo and the appointed professors on the 3rd floor of the university administration building on the topic of the status and progress of the school development, next, he visited the Cheongwoon building, which was recently opened after the total remodeling, and looked around the learning library and museum.

Along with this, Mr. Kim attended a meeting with students participating in the special course 'Honors Life Academy' operated by Pukyong National University with the support of Dongwon Group and encouraged them in the president's office on the same day.

"When I go outside of Korea, I can feel how excellent Koreans are. 'Being active in a field that you can do well with confidence is the key to globalization,' so I hope that students do really hard accordingly," Mr. Kim continued, "I hope that the school will also work hard so that the outstanding achievements of our Pukyong students can see the light of day." <Pukyong Today>
