Kim Hyun-Moo (Dept. of Marine Production System Management, Class of 13') of Pukyong National University, who is also a popular YouTuber and a deck officer in his 20s, is attracting public attention by appearing on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block'.
In episode 140 of 'You Quiz', which aired on February 2, Kim appeared as 'The chief deck officer of a Deep Sea Fishing Vessel chasing school of Tuna' and shared with the program hosts Yoo Jae-Seok and Jo Se-Ho to vividly introduce his daily life as a deep-sea fishing vessel navigator.
Since 2017, Kim has been operating a YouTube channel on a tuna purse seine vessel belonging to Sajo Industries in Pacific, and has received a lot of attention with keywords such as 'navigator in his 20s', 'six figure income’, and 'hot YouTuber', so he was invited to appear in this 'You Quiz' program as well.
In this program, he introduced the process of searching for a school of tuna using telescopes, radar, and helicopters after waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning. He also introduced the funny story of receiving a corroded parcel after 3 months, and a cabin equipped with a TV, refrigerator, and air purifier.
Kim, who has been on a deep sea fishing vessel for 6 years, said, "At first time, I was highly influenced by some others' stereotype that it is scary to live on a deep sea fishing vessel but after I was told many stories from my seniors who had sailed around when they were students in college, I realized that it was different from what I had expected," he added, "It was actually fun and spectacular."
Along with this, when asked about his annual salary, he shared the special advantages of boarding a deep sea fishing vessel, "If you work onboard, your annual salary will be in the billions. Plus, money is automatically saved because there is nowhere to shop in the vessel."
When asked about his goal, he said, "Becoming a captain is my first goal. I think that if I work hard, I can become a young captain quickly."
This is not the first time Kim has been featured in the media. Last year, he was introduced to the 'Kookje Daily News' which is Busan regional newspaper, as 'Navigator in his 20s on YouTube' and drew public attention.
Kim, who was a second officer at the time, is now a first deck officer and his YouTube channel subscribers have increased from 30,000 a year ago to 40,000, and now more than 70,000 people are subscribing his channel. <Pukyong Today>
