Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has been operating 'Covid recovery exercise project' since April 4 to help members who are experiencing in their daily life due to sequela after being coronic.

This corona sequela, also called 'long covid', refers to symptoms such as unexplained fatigue or shortness of breath that are difficult to diagnose even after a certain period (about 12 weeks) has passed after being infected with COVID-19.

With the start of the first semester of this year, Pukyong National University expanded in-person classes and supported a rapid recovery of daily life through the 'covid recovery exercise project' for the first time among national universities so that students and staff do not experience inconvenience in their studies and work due to these aftereffects.

The 'covid recovery exercise project' is hosted by the Institute for Sports Promotion at Pukyong National University, and in-school specialists (family physicians, rehabilitation specialists) and fitness experts participate. It is an individual exercise with tailored smart health care program that allows participants to monitor and control heart rate and exercise intensity in real time using a smart device while exercising.

It is operated with a specialist interviews the participants, provides medical advice and education on daily life management, and prescribes an intensity exercise appropriate for the condition. Various programs such as strength training, yoga, and Pilates are offered for 4 weeks according to the participant's preference.

Kim Soo-Hyeon, a collaboration professor (family physicians) from the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation, who is in charge of this project, said, "In order to manage the aftereffects of the coronavirus, we need to understand the current symptoms and situation and manage energy efficiently through appropriate physical activities," added, "In the meantime, we are supporting students to better manage the aftereffects of covid by providing a customized physical activity program through accurate medical consultation so that students who are accustomed to untact classes can adapt well to in-person classes after being confirmed."

The Institute for Sports Promotion at Pukyong National University is planning the next recruitment by reviewing the effectiveness, starting with the first 'covid recovery exercise project', furthermore, through collaboration with local governments and Busan sports council, the university plans to expand support for daily recovery in the post-corona era by providing accurate diagnosis and tailored exercise programs to local residents who have difficulty recovering from the aftereffects of covid. <Pukyong Today>
