Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) started the 'coastal fishing shipboarding practice 2022' at the reclaimed pier of Yongho bay near Daeyeon campus on the afternoon of June 27th.

Pukyong National University's shipboarding practice is a 66 year-long tradition of training marine and fishery talents, which began in Korea in 1957 when 48 students, including honorary chairman Kim Jae-Cheol of Dongwon group, reached to Keelung port in Taiwan.

Until 2019, Pukyong National University had been training shipboarding every year to touch at China, Japan, and Russia, but in 2020 and 2021, Pukyong National University had to practice shipboarding without port touch due to the covid-19, however, Pukyong National University conducts boarding practice in the form of calling at domestic ports centered on the domestic coast for this year.

A total of 96 students including 63 students from the Division of marine production system management and the Mechanical system engineering major, academic advisors, and crew members will participate in this onboarding practice.

They board the Baek-Kyung, the largest training ship in the domestic fisheries' industry, which was first launched last year, and will depart from Busan on this day, via Incheon, Mokpo, and Jeju, and then return to Busan on July 26 for a 30-day shipboard training program.

During this training session in the west and south seas, Pukyong National University students learn the navigator and engineer training courses in accordance with the STCW international conventions such as fishing operation, nautical skills, messaging operation, marine engine operation, automatic control system operation, ship stability and pollution prevention.

At the same time, Pukyong National University students plan to conduct exchange activities such as benchmarking by visiting universities and public institutions related to maritime and fisheries at each port of call.

Pukyong National University conducted pre-COVID-19 inspections, including quarantine measures to prevent COVID-19 infection, and self-kit inspections for all personnel every week. On this day, Pukyong National University students went on board practice without a separate departure ceremony. <Pukyong Today>
