Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) held the 'Sea campus with college of liberal arts' event for first-year students for two days on June 27th and 28th.

 

Forty freshmen who participated in this event departed from reclaimed pier at Yongho bay on the afternoon of the 27th, aboard Pukyong National University's exploration vessel the 'Nara' (1,494 tons), and experience boarding, sailing and marine cultures throughout the Nam-gu, Busan for 1 night and 2 days.

 

This event, arranged by the College of liberal arts (dean Chae Young-Hee) in charge of liberal arts education at Pukyong National University, was prepared to provide an opportunity for freshmen this year to experience fisheries and marine infrastructure, which is a specialized field of the university, to realize the importance of fisheries and maritime fields, and to develop a sense of belonging and pride as well.

 

From reclamed pier at Yongho bay, it was scheduled to return to Yongho Bay again via Igidae park, Busan harbor bridge, Busan port, Nakdong river estuary, Oryukdo islands, and Gwangan bridge, the participating students experienced the scenery and local culture of Busan as seen from the sea near Busan.

 

In addition to boarding experience, lectures on marine safety, marine natural science and history of marine pioneering, student health management, general oceanography Ⅰ (movements of ocean water, marine biology), and general oceanography Ⅱ (ocean development and resources, ocean observation) were also opened at this event.

 

In addition to this extracurricular program, Pukyong National University plans to encourage career exploration activities by providing new students with new experiences and expand opportunities to strengthen their fisheries, marine and humanities competency. <Pukyong Today>
