Pukyong National University and Sogang university jointly promote ‘semiconductor specialized university’

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) and Sogang university (president Shim Jong-Hyuk) have decided to jointly promote the attraction of a ‘semiconductor specialized university’.

President Jang Young-Soo from Pukyong National University and president Shim Jong-Hyuk from Sogang university signed a business agreement to expand the cultivation of talent in the semiconductor industry in the reception room on the 3rd floor of the main building of Sogang university on the afternoon of April 20, and formed a consortium to attract and decided to cooperate for ‘universities specializing in semiconductors’.

The 'semiconductor specialized university' project is a project to nurture talents of the Ministry of education, which is promoted to solve the mismatch problem such as the shortage of manpower in semiconductor companies. After selecting 8 types from metropolitan area, provincial, and university associations, 4.5 to 8.5 billion won each, a total of 54 billion won will be supported.

Pukyong National University and Sogang university, located in Busan and Seoul, respectively, plan to form a consortium and apply for this type of university association. As soon as it is designated as a specialized semiconductor university, the university will receive various support for fostering talent in the semiconductor industry, such as curriculum and equipment construction. The final results will be announced in May.

Pukyong National University has infrastructure for industry-academy cooperation with semiconductor companies and semiconductor-related departments, such as the department of nano convergence semiconductor engineering, which will be newly established next year, and the department of system semiconductor engineering, a contract department with SK hynix, which was opened this year at Sogang University. Therefore, it is expected that the two universities will create a synergistic effect in nurturing talented people in the semiconductor industry through this project.
