Development of medical devices for diagnosis and treatment of cancer using marine-derived materials
Professor Oh Jeong-hwan
Professor Oh Jeong-hwan (Biomedical Engineering) of Pukyong National University was selected as the winner of the 2018 4th Marine Fisheries Science Technology grand prize by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for his contribution to marine fisheries development. Professor Oh’s accomplishment is ‘development of medical devices for diagnosis and treatment of cancer using marine-derived materials.’ Professor Oh is producing nanocomposites using biologically applicable marine-derived materials (prorotinin, astaxanthin, chitosan, etc.) and doing research on the development of biological materials and medical devices using this. He produced a biocompatible chitosan-polypyrrole nanocomposite (CS-PPy-NCs) using marine-derived chitosan and developed various bio-application fields using the maximum absorption wavelength of the material. In particular, he has developed a NIR laser that responds to marine biological materials and proved that it can be used for the treatment and diagnosis of various diseases through absorption and scattering process. Over the past three years, Professor Oh has written 54 papers related to this, and has accomplished 16 patents, 3 technology transfers, and he founded O’Labs Inc. <기사보기 클릭!>
