Published the poster of ’Sea Fishes in Korean Peninsula’
Professor Kim Jin-Koo

Pukyong National University’s Marine Fish Resource Bank of Korea (MFRBK) (Head Kim Jin-Koo, Department of Marine biology) produced a poster, which is called ’Sea Fishes in Korean Peninsula’, containing photos of 163 kinds of major commercial marine fishes in our seas. This poster provides sample photographs, scientific names, and national names of 163 kinds of the major commercial fishes, including flounders, saurel, cavally, porgy, puffer fish, rockfish, sharks, and redfish, among 1200 kinds of fishes which make their home in the ocean. Especially, the same upper groups (group by family) were placed to make it easy to distinguish between major commercial species and similar species so that they could be useful in the field, such as the fish market. For example, tiger puffers, which are traded twice as expensive as eyespot puffers in the fish market, are often classified as a similar form of eyespot puffers, however, you can see the difference between spotted patterns and easily distinguish them with this poster.
The photographs of 163 types of fish included in this poster were collected and taken directly by Pukyong National University’s Marine Fish Resource Bank of Korea. The organization keeps samples of the 3 newly discovered fishes (long tailed lump sucker, sea horse, white tailed Japanese hagfish) with a total of 742 types of marine fishes (186 family groups), including 163 numbers of  fish species in liquid immersion method, freezing, and tissue storage, and these are available for free sale or rental. Pukyong National University’s Marine Fish Resource Bank of Korea, meanwhile, has produced this poster with support from the Korea Institute of Maritime Science and Technology (KIMST) under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since 2013, and it plans to distribute posters to marine and marine related organizations for use as educational and research materials.
