PKNU, selected for 'BrainLink' project by the Ministry of Science and ICT

Professor Lee Bo-Ram

Prof. Lee Bo-Ram (Dept. of Physics) of Pukyong National University was selected for the outstanding researcher exchange support project of 2022 (BrainLink) by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea.

This project was established for the first time this year to nurture human resources in the core technology field and to raise the international awareness of domestic researchers through dispatching and joint research by domestic research groups abroad, holding international exchange meetings for each technology field, and support for the spread of basic research results.

Prof. Lee Bo-Ram of Pukyong National University was selected as the subject of 'Research on next-generation semiconductors and displays based on perovskite and nurture of excellent human resources' in the field of overseas research manpower exchange for this project and he will receive about 4.7 billion won in support for three years for promoting exchanges between research personnel, mainly in Korea and the UK.

In this consortium, led by prof. Lee as the head of the research group, Cambridge University and Oxford University are participating as overseas research institutes, and Seoul National University, Hanyang University, UNIST, and SN Display are participating in the consortium in Korea.

Prof. Richard H. Friend, director of the Cavendish laboratory and a member of the Royal society, participates as the research director at the University of Cambridge. Professor Friend, a world-renowned scholar, developed the world's first OLED and perovskite light emitting device, and has received 35 awards including the Faraday medal. The Oxford University research director is prof. Henry J. Snaith, a member of the Royal society of England, who has been recognized as a pioneer in the field of perovskite optoelectronic devices and has received a medal at the James Joule award.

Together with them, prof. Henning Sirringhaus and prof. Samuel Stranks from the University of Cambridge, and prof, Iain McCulloch from Oxford University and prof. Stephen Morris from the University of Oxford, recognized as world-class scholars, also participate.

Including prof. Park Seong-Heum and prof. Lee Bo-Ram from Pukyong National University, prof. Lee Tak-Hee and prof. Kang Ki-Hoon from Seoul National University, prof. Yim Won-Bin and prof. Choi Hyo-Seong from Hanyang University, prof. Song Myeong-Hoon from UNIST, and Lee Tae-Woo from SN Display participate the consortium in Korea, and the LG display and DS Neolux participate as demand companies.

Prof. Lee Bo-Ram said, "Through this project, we plan to exchange excellent domestic and foreign researchers in the semiconductor and display fields, one of the 10 essential national strategic technologies that Korea must take the lead in and promote joint research and development of core technologies and fostering excellent researchers."
