Development underwater IoT technology
Professor Jeong Wan-Young’s research team

Research by Professor Jeong Wan-young at Pukyong National University (Dept. of Electronics Engineering) developed a core material component and communication system for aquatic objects (Internet of Things) attached to aquatic objects for a smart-style platform. Professor Jung’s team has been selected as the new research project for this year’s Basic Research Lab (ICT·Convergence Research-Information Technology Convergence) by the National Research Foundation (NRF). This is the first time that it has been selected as a basic laboratory from Pukyong National University. As a result, the research team will start developing the core material parts and communication technology for the underwater Internet of Things that can be directly attached to aquaculture fish with support of approximately 1.3 billion won for 3 years from this month. Developing an eco-friendly, high-productivity smart farming platform that can monitor fish growth characteristics and fishery environment.
For the convergent research, Professor Baek Kang-jun, Professor Oh Pil-gun at Department of Graphic Arts Information Engineering, including Professor Jeong and Professor Son Yoon-Kook of Chosun University, participated in this project. In this project, they plans to develop △high-efficiency ultrasonic and short-range visible light underwater communication technology, △network technology with ubiquitous sensor, △flexible/elastic energy storage material and design technology that is stable in the underwater environment, △high-end/extension underwater for measuring fish and biosignals and plans to develop sensor technology, hybrid printed electronic circuit technology △to support sensor driving and underwater communication, and △highly functional fisheries bio-binder technology to attach to the skin of the UIoT sensor as for the core technologies of the underwater Internet of Things. At the same time, these technologies are used as a platform for eco-friendly smart farming and fishery resource development, and also the team will conducts an empirical study of the smart farming environment evaluation at the mass production stage and the resulting productivity change.
