PKNU 'multilingual portal system' to support international students, developed for the first time among national universities
- in four languages, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese from Sep.1
Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has developed a multilingual student portal system, including English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese, for the first time among national universities, and will begin service on the 1st.
Pukyong National University has been providing portal system services in Korean so far, but has now built additional systems in four languages, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese so that international students studying at Pukyong National University can conveniently use them.
The university's portal system is a system that gathers and provides various university services such as course registration, academic information, webmail, and electronic libraries in one place, just as commercial portal sites provide comprehensive services such as email and search.
Pukyong National University provides external information through the general website, and provides academic-related services linked to each student's academic information through the portal system, so it is highly utilized among students.
Through the multilingual portal system, Pukyong National University expects to provide various on-campus information and services, such as notices, academic schedules, class schedules, and book reserve information, to the 1,565 international students (as of Apr. '23) from 68 countries currently attending Pukyong National University.
Pukyong National University's portal system is linked to several services, so when accessing other services that are not built in multiple languages through the portal, it is linked to an automatic translation service and translated into the relevant language to maximize user accessibility and convenience.
To prevent mistranslation during automatic translation, the reliability of the web was increased by applying a separate database for major services and user information, and personal information protection and information security were also strengthened by upgrading secondary authentication and encryption.
Professor Joo Moon-Gap, director of Pukyong National University information and computer center, said, "we plan to expand multilingual services to not only the portal system but also the academic administration information system, and make continuous efforts to provide customized services for more international students from Myanmar, Indonesia, and other countries." <Pukyong Today>
