PKNU operates Korea first 'smart aquaculture big data center'
- The Ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries project hosted by Busan city achieving innovation in the aquaculture industry by investing 13 billion won
The Korea first 'smart aquaculture big data center' is planned to set in Pukyong National University in Yongdang, Busan.
The smart aquaculture big data center is a platform to collect, analyze, and standardize big data from aquaculture facilities centered on six smart aquaculture clusters in Korea, including Busan, to increase aquaculture productivity and draw the best firming conditions.
The Ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries held a public offering for a project to build a smart aquaculture big data center for local governments in Korea. Recognized for being Korean number one center for processing and distributing marine products, its track record in marine and fisheries research, infrastructure for educational institutions, and ecosystem and geographical requirements for the data industry, the city of Busan nominated Pukyong National University as the operating institution, the university was finally selected for the project.
The smart aquaculture big data center is planned to be built in engineering building #9 at Pukyong National University by investing 13 billion won by 2025. It is located on the Yongdang campus, which is being created as an urban high-tech industrial complex through the campus innovation park project, another government financial support project, so it is easy to converge and connect with related industrial fields, and it is evaluated as the optimal location because 100% of telecommunication company dedicated lines can be underground.
Once this center is built, it will be possible to provide customized data services to public institutions, researchers, universities, companies, and citizens by analyzing big data collected from private fish farms as well as the smart aquaculture cluster located in Busan, Goseong in Gyeongnam, Shinan-gun in Jeonnam, Pohang-si in Gyeongbuk, Gangwon, Jeju using artificial intelligence (AI).
Following the smart aquaculture test bed currently being built at Pukyong National University fisheries science research institute (Dongbaek-ri, Gijang-gun), Busan city will also host this smart aquaculture big data center, giving further momentum to the smart aquaculture industry growth roadmap to create large-scale smart aquaculture farms in the future.
After establishing a strategic plan this year, Pukyong National University and Busan city plan to complete detailed design, remodeling work, and server infrastructure construction next year, followed by construction of a diagnostic system by 2025.
Once the construction of the smart aquaculture big data center is completed, it is expected to serve as a key platform for creating high added value in the fisheries industry as it can increase productivity by optimizing sustainable aquaculture environment through data-based aquaculture and ensure stability by predicting supply and demand of aquaculture organisms through data analysis. <Pukyong Today>
