Introduction
Data challenges the world. The department of statistics and data science trains students to take part in the data revolution. Students will have a solid foundation in statistical theory and methods, focusing on analysis and communication of data by involving in probability, statistics, data science and computer programming. The department works with a broad range of statistical computing and programming languages and provide expertise on predictive modeling, survey analysis, survival analysis, small area estimation, Bayesian analysis, machine learning, data visualization, and time series analysis.
Goals
- Grasp statistical terms and theories precisely
- Apply relevant statistical methods from their coursework to analyze real data
- Effectively communicate their results with non-majors
- Provide effective analyses from real data using a variety of data analytical approaches
Types of Certified Licences
- Actuaries in Korea, the USA and Canada
- Account executives, stock account executives, financial planners
- Social survey analysts grade 1 and 2, SAS international licence, quality control engineer grade 1, information process engineer grade 1.
Career Fields After Graduation
- Various financial organizations such as banks, insurance companies, stock companies, private and enterprise credit-rating agencies
- Enterprise (management information analyst using computer, six sigma quality control)
- Government administration (Statistics Korea, Ministry of Employment and Labor)
- Research centers in companies, education organization, survey companies (Korea Gallup), medical research centers, graduate schools in domestic/abroad, etc.
