The Department of Mechanical System Engineering mainly teaches design, production, the management of precise systems of machinery in the machinery engineering area and electric/electronic and control engineering fields fusing these fields and aiming to nurture technically-minded intellectuals who can work with preciseness, using various complex machinery systems and have a career in management and the maintenance of automated ships.

The Department of Mechanical System Engineering is a department that was established in 1968 and to date has produced approximately 2000 graduates who are actively working in fields such as industry, and research centers, and as scholars.

To achieve the above goal, we emphasize structural experiments, practice and seamenship involving both theory and laboratory work on heat, fluids, solids, electronics, and in the control field. We also contribute to the growth of studies by actively managing each laboratory for the creative studies of our graduate schol students. Major research fields are the automation systems of ships, diesel engine systems, shafting vacuum interpretation, heat power systems, computerbased design and production, and fluid/air pressure systems. Students can go on to become scholars or have careers in industry and research centers related to machinery system engineering, or they can become navy officers by applying to the ROTC and being exempted from military service by serving a certain period of time as a ship engineer after achieving a mate’s license as part of this military exemption.

Students who graduate from the Department of Mechanical System Engineering must have fulfill the entire curriculum based mainly on the educational goals below.

  • Nurture intellectuals with advanced techniques and the basic mathematical and science knowledge which are necessary for mechanical system engineering.
  • Nurture intellectuals with advanced techniques who can analyse various machinery systems by understanding engineering and applying their knowledge when necessary to mechanical system engineering.
  • Nurture intellectuals with the practical techniques and application ability in high-tech engineering instruments that are necessary for industrial sites.
  • Nurture advanced intellectuals who understand mechanical system engineering-related data and who can design appropriate systems according to requirements.
  • Nurture intellectuals who can formalize and resolve problems related to mechanical systems in the industrial field.
  • Nurture advanced intellectuals who can manage, maintain and control the machinery systems of automated ships.
