부경대학교(총장 박맹언)는 7월 29일 12시 대연캠퍼스 내 동원장보고관 3층 리더십홀에서 말레이시아 잠브리(Zambry Abd Kadir) 페락주(州) 주지사(49세)에게 명예수산학 박사 학위를 수여했다.
잠브리 주지사는 수산업이 가장 활발한 페락주의 팡코르섬에서 어부의 아들로 태어나 수산 및 해양 분야에 각별한 관심과 지식으로 어업 양식 등 수산발전을 기반으로 한 국가 경제발전을 위해 노력하고 있다.
말레이시아는 해안선 길이 4,674㎞, 배타적 경제수역 334,671㎢로 수산물 생산 증대 가능성이 높은 국가이다. 최근 어업과 양식 등 수산 기술 개발과 보급을 확대하는 등 수산업 진흥에 적극 나서고 있다.
이날 잠브리 주지사는 답사를 통해 “먼 나라의 한 어부의 아들에게 명예박사 학위라는 큰 영광을 주셔서 진심으로 감사드린다.”면서 “앞으로 한국과 말레이시아의 인력, 교육 등 상호교류에 적극 노력하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
부경대는 이번 학위 수여를 계기로 부경대의 특성화 분야인 수산 해양 학문을 말레이시아에 전수해 경제발전을 지원하는 등 긴밀한 국제협력을 통해 상호 발전방안을 모색해 나갈 계획이다.<부경투데이>

Pukyong National University (PKNU, President Maeng Eon Park) awarded Perak Governor Zambry Abd Kadir the honorary doctorate degree in Fishery Science in Leadership Hall on the third floor of Dongwon Jangbogo building at Deayeon Campus, PKNU. 
 
Governer Zambry was born in Pang kor island, Perak, where fishing industry thrives, as a son of a fisherman. He is particularly interested in fisheries and maritime affairs and thus he is devoting himself to the economic development of the country based on the development of the fisheries industry.
 
Malaysia has a coastline of 4,674㎞ and an exclusive economic zone of 334,671㎢ with a great potentiality of producing rich marine products. Recently, Malaysia takes further steps to developing and spreading marine science and technology such as fisheries and fish culture with the purpose of promoting the fishing industry. 
 
In his speech on the day, Governor Zambry said, “I am much honored and grateful to receive this honorary Ph.D. even though I’m a son of a fisherman from a country far away from here.” “I will try to build up the mutual cooperation in human resources and education between the two countries in the future,” he also added.
 
Taking this as an opportunity, PKNU is planning to find ways to mutual prosperity through close international cooperation such as supporting Malaysia’s economic development by sharing fisheries and marine information.<Translator ; Park Si Hyeong, heartfulmind@naver.com>
