Pukyong Today 슈퍼컴퓨터로 대기.환경 연구 지원한다 부경대, 국가슈퍼컴퓨팅 공동활용체제구축사업 거점센터 선정


부경대학교 슈퍼컴퓨터센터(센터장 오재호 교수·환경대기과학과)가 2011년 국가슈퍼컴퓨팅 공동활용체제구축(PLSI) 사업의 대기·환경 분야 거점 활성화센터로 선정됐다.

이 센터는 앞으로 슈퍼컴퓨터를 이용해 태풍, 집중호우, 폭설 등 이상 기상현상 발생 시 활용할 수 있는 지역별 조기경보체제 구축 방안을 연구하고, 한국수자원공사, 부산기상청, APEC기후센터 등에 기상·기후 정보 교환을 지원하는 등 대기·환경 분야 발전을 이끌게 된다.

이와 함께 서울대 농림기상센터 등 국내 22곳의 대기·환경 분야 주요 기관과 협력체계를 구축하고 관련분야 교육 및 정보 교류 등을 추진한다.

PLSI 사업은 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)이 국내 슈퍼컴퓨터 자원을 국가적 차원의 체계적인 관리를 통해 효율적으로 사용할 수 있도록 지원하는 사업이다.

KISTI는 이 사업으로 슈퍼컴퓨터를 활용해 각 특성화 분야 중심의 서비스 체계를 구축하고, 지역 기업의 기술 개발 지원을 통해 기업 혁신을 유도하는 등의 역할을 할 예정이다.

한편, 부경대 슈퍼컴퓨터센터는 10Gbps 대역폭의 초고속 연구개발망을 활용해 독일기상청, 유럽 중기예보센터, 일본 농업기상연구센터, 일본 사가대학 등과 연구교류체계를 구축하는 등 대기·환경 분야 거점센터로 기능하고 있다.<부경투데이>

Supercomputers will be used to support the studies in the field of environmental atmospheric sciences.
- PKNU was selected as the center of PLSI

PKNU Supercomputer Center which executive director is O Jae Ho who is a professor of department of environmental atmospheric sciences was selected as the center of PLSI (Partnership and Leadership for the nationwide Supercomputer Infrastructure) in the field of environmental atmospheric sciences in 2011.

This center will research a local early warning system using the supercomputers in case of the abnormal atmospheric phenomena like a typhoon, a cloudburst, and a heavy snow. In addition, this center will make an exchange with Korea Water Resources Corporation, Busan Regional Meteorological Administration, and APEC Climate Center about weather and climate information to lead to development in the field of environmental atmospheric sciences.

Moreover, this center is going to set up a cooperative system to work with 22 major institutes in Korea including Seoul National University Center for Agro Meteorology in the field of environmental atmospheric sciences. Also, it will promote the exchange of the education and the information in this field.

PLSI is a business to help KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) to use supercomputers at the national level efficiently.

KISTI is going to play a major role to build service network focusing on the specialized field by using supercomputers. Besides, it will help many local corporations to bring about a variety of the innovations by supporting the technical developments.

Meanwhile, PKNU Supercomputer Center has played an important role as the stronghold in the field of environmental atmospheric sciences. For example, it has tried to make an exchange of the studies with Germany Meteorological Administration, Saga University in Japan, and so on using the high speed - about 10 Gbps - research and development network. <Pukyong Today>
