            부경대학교 제5대 총장 김영섭(金榮燮․56세) 박사의 취임식이 8월 22일 수요일 오전 11시 부경대 대연캠퍼스 대학본부 2층 대회의실에서 열렸다.
이날 취임식에는 부경대 명예총장인 김재철 동원그룹 회장을 비롯, 김종해 부산시 행정부시장, 이상희 국립과천과학관 관장, 유재중 국회의원, 손재학 국립수산과학원 원장, 부산‧울산‧경남‧제주지역대학교 총장협의회 회장인 정량부 동의대 총장을 비롯한 전국 국공립 및 사립대 총장, 장선덕, 한상숙, 한영호, 목연수, 박맹언 전임 부경대 총장, 정수일 총동창회장, 강의구 대학발전후원회장 등 내빈과 교수, 직원, 학생 등 모두 600여명이 참석했다.
김 총장은 이날 취임사를 통해 “대학의 존재 이유 중 가장 기본적이고 중요한 것은 교육”이라면서, “교육이 살아야 연구가 살고, 연구가 살아야 대학이 산다.”고 수준 높은 교육을 위해 집중 투자할 것임을 강조했다.
그는 “특히 교수에 대한 교육 연구지원을 실질적이고 실효성 있게 그리고 전폭적으로 추진하여 교수 역량을 더욱 강화하겠다.”고 밝혔다. 이를 통해 교육과 연구를 잘 하는 대학, 졸업생이 잘 되는 대학, 지역사회가 자랑스러워하는 대학을 만들겠다는 것.
김 총장은 “산학협력과 특성화, 전략적 국제화를 추진할 것.”이라면서, “산업현장과 함께하는 교육과 연구시스템 구축을 통해 산학협력을 대학 핵심역량으로 키우겠다.”고 말했다.
이를 통해 김 총장은 “고품질 학생 취업률과 교육·연구 인프라를 국립대 최고 수준으로 높이고, 창의적 특성화 분야를 국내 최고 수준으로 육성한다는 목표를 달성할 것”이라고 강조했다.
이를 위해 △교수의 교육과 연구 집중 지원 △기본에 충실한 교육과 확고한 산학협력 체제 구축 △캠퍼스 재창조를 통한 인프라 개선 △구성원 복지와 문화수준 향상 △우수 교수 채용 및 육성 시스템 정착 △소통을 통한 대학운영 투명성 및 효율성 강화 △창의적 수·해양, 인문·사회·경영, 이공융합 특성화 연구집단 육성 등의 발전전략이 추진된다.
김 총장은 부경대를 졸업(1978년)했으며 일본동경대 대학원에서 박사학위(1992년)를 받았다. 1980년 군산대에서 교직을 시작해 1992년부터 부경대 교수로 재직하며 교무처장, 대한원격탐사학회장 등을 역임했다.
한편 이날 김재철 명예총장은 축사를 통해 “국립대 최초로 대학 간 통합을 이뤄낸 열정과 과감한 도전정신으로 미래를 개척해나가길 바란다.”고 말했다.
정수일 총동창회장은 “17만 동문들의 힘을 모아 모교가 발전해나갈 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다.”고 말했다.<부경투데이>

            "Through high-quality education, aiming the top of 'Employment rate of high-skilled students' among Korean national universities

The inaugural ceremony of the 5th President of PKNU, Kim Young-Seup, was held at 11am on the 22nd August in the Main conference room on the 2nd floor of the Main building in Daeyeon Campus of PKNU.
Many important and prestigious guests attended the inaugural ceremony of the 5th President of PKNU on 22nd August. Some of these guests included the Chairman of Dong-won group Kim Jae-chul (who is also an honorary president of PKNU), the Mayor of Busan Administration Kim Jong-hae, the Director of Gwacheon National Science Museum Lee Sang-hee, a member of the National Assembly Yu Jae-joong, the Director of National Fisheries Research and Development Institute Son Jae-hak, and the Chairman of the Council for Presidents of Universities in Busan, Ulsan, Kyoungnam, and Jeju province Chung Yang-bu (who is also the President of Dong-Eui University). Also present at this ceremony were the Presidents of National and Private Universities Jang Sun-duk, Han Sang-suk, Han young-ho, Mok Yeon-su, the 4th President of PKNU Park Maeng Eon,  the President of an Alumni Association Jung Su-il, and the President of the Supporters Association for Development of Universities Kang Eui-gu. In total, more than 600 people including guests, faculty members, professors, and students attended this ceremony.
President Kim said, 'the most important and basic reason for the existence of a university is education, and that education can enable effective research, and that research synergy can give a bigger synergy effect to the university'. Furthermore, President Kim  emphasized that he will focus on investing in high-quality education.
He also clarified that he will enhance professors' capabilities, especially through effective and practical support for education research, and with this, he will make our university a university that is good at education and research, a university that produces great graduates, and a university that the local community can be proud of.
President Kim said, "I will push ahead with the industry-university collaboration, specialization, and strategic internationalization. I will make the industry-university collaboration one of PKNU's core competencies by providing an education with an industrial setting and a building research system".
He also emphasized that, through new systems, he will achieve the goal of making PKNU a top-class level in national universities in regards to the employment rate of high-skilled students, education-research infra, and the field of creative specialization.
In order to achieve that goal, development strategies will be pushed ahead such as focused support for professor's education and research, building systems of education (faithful on basic?) and the industry-university collaboration, founding infra through re-building the campus, improving the welfare and cultural level of faculties, employing high-quality professors and settling training systems, enhancing clearance and effectiveness in regards to  managing the university through communication, and promoting creative research teams that are merged with all fields of studies.
President Kim graduated from PKNU in 1978, and he was granted a Doctor Degree in 1992. He started his job as a professor in 1980 in Kunsan University, and then moved to PKNU in 1992. He has held various posts such as the Dean of Academic Affairs, and the Dean of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.<Pukyong Today>
