고(故) 천경자 화백의 작품과 개인소장품 등 총 4,000여 점이 국립 부경대학교에 기증된다.

천경자 화백의 장녀 이혜선 씨는 12월 11일 오후 부경대학교 대연캠퍼스 동원장보고관 3층 리더십홀에서 기자회견을 갖고 어머니 천경자 화백의 작품과 개인소장품을 부경대학교에 기증한다고 전격 발표했다.
이에 앞서 12월 10일 오후 이혜선 씨는 부경대학교를 방문, 김영섭 총장과 작품과 개인소장품 기증을 위한 협약을 체결했다.
이 협약서에 따르면 부경대학교는 ‘천경자 기념미술관’을 건립하며, 이혜선 씨는 천경자 화백의 스케치성 드로잉과 미완성 작품, 개인 소장품 및 저작권을 부경대학교에 기증한다.
기증 내용은 천 화백이 평생 작업한 드로잉 작품과 미완성 작품 1천여 점을 비롯해 컵, 머리핀, 물감, 신발, 안경, 옷 등 천 화백의 개인 소장품 3천여 점 등 모두 4,000여 점이다.
부경대는 ‘천경자 기념미술관’을 오는 2020년까지 60억 원을 투입해 전시실, 영상실, 수장고 등을 갖춘 연면적 1,320㎡ 규모의 독립 건물로 건립한다. 개관 전까지는 부경대 박물관에 임시 전시실을 마련하여 일부 기증 작품을 전시한다.
이 씨는 “어머니는 당신의 분신과도 같은 작품들이 흩어지지 않고 대중과 함께하길 소망하셔서 1998년에 서울시에 작품들을 기증하신 바 있다.”면서, “어머니의 뜻에 따라 어머니의 작품들을 관리하고 있던 저는 이 같은 어머니의 뜻을 어떻게 받들까 항상 고민해왔다.”고 말했다.
이 씨는 “그러던 중 지난해 부경대 윤광운 교수님을 만나 의논드리게 되었다."면서, “윤 교수님의 모친은 어머니 여고시절 은사님으로 당시 꿈 많은 학생이었던 어머니께 화가로서의 꿈을 키워 가도록 용기를 주신 고마우신 분.”이라고 밝혔다.
이 씨는 “또한 부산은 어머니가 처음 공식 전시회를 연 도시로 어머니를 화가로 만들어준 곳.”이라면서, “이러한 소중한 인연들로 부경대에 어머니의 작품과 소장품을 기증하게 되어 고맙고 다행이라 생각한다.”고 말했다.
그는 “부경대에 기증된 어머니의 혼이 담긴 작품들을 통해 어머니께서 사람들로부터 항상 사랑을 받으셨으면 좋겠다.”고 말했다.
김영섭 총장은 “천경자 화백이 남기신 작품과 혼이 잘 보존되고 계승될 수 있도록 정성을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.<부경투데이>
Chun Kyungja Memorial Art Museum to Be Constructed

Late painter Chun Kyung-ja’s works and collection are to be donated to Pukyong National University.
Lee Hye-seon, the first daughter of the late artist, held press conference on 11 December at the 3rd floor Leadership Hall of Dongwon Jang Bogo Hall of Daeyeon Campus, PKNU. She announced that her late mother Chun Kyung-ja’s works and personal effects will be donated to the University.
She visited the University a day before the press conference to make an agreement on donation with President Kim Young-seup.
The agreement stipulates that the University will build Chun Kyungja Memorial Art Museum and Lee will donate sketch drawings, unfinished works and belongings of her mother.
A total of 4,000 donations include 1,000 pieces of drawings and unfinished works and 3,000 pieces of artist’s personal effects such as cup, hairpin, paints, shoes, glasses and clothes.
The University is planning to spend 6 billion won by 2020 to construct Chun Kyungja Memorial Art Museum, a 1,320㎡ whole building with exhibition hall, video room and storage.
“Mother hoped that her childlike works would stay all together, not to be scattered, so she once donated her works to Seoul City in 1998. I’ve taken care of her works and always contemplated how to follow her wish,” said Lee, “then I met Professor Yun Kwang-woon last year and talked about it. His mother was my mother’s high school teacher, and also a mentor who encouraged and inspired mother to dream of a painter.”
“And Busan is the city where my mother held the first official exhibition, the city that made mother a painter. These connections make the donation to Pukyong National University more meaningful. I feel lucky and relieved,” added Lee, “I hope my mother will always be loved by people through these donated works which is her spirit and soul.”
